Serenity recap

Here we are at the end of our journey and I'm wondering what to write. All of us have seen this movie, more than once. Probably a lot more than once? :) How many times for you? But I'm still spotting things I didn't remember from before and wishing, as always, that there was more ( Read more... )

What I really liked about Serenity was Zoe's characterisation, particularly how she dealt with Wash's death. In any case, I've only watched the film maybe three times, as I find it much darker than the series and just can't deal with it many times over.
The thing that struck me most was how different the music was compared to the tv series score. Don't really have much to say about this, but I think they did the scoring better in the tv series. I found the Reaver theme in the series to be absolutely more appropriate than whatever they used in the film.

I didn't even notice the music! Now I have an excuse to watch again :) I've got to admit I tend to hear in my head the Bedlam Bards' music they wrote for the series and movie.

oh wow, i'm so glad you've done this!!:)) i'm real busy today but i will sit, read and ponder along ASAP. Just from your opening i have to say Yeah... perspectives on River's background... i agree they're not as objective as some may say. It's true for the flashbacks in Safe as well.

Thanks again for a marvelous post:))

Great recap!

The movie differs from the series in so many ways that it's always rather jarring to me to watch it so soon after Objects in Space. The lighting, the music, the tone, all changed. Part of me sometimes feel like anger over cancelation of the series comes through, but that's probably just my imagination (or my transference).

While the character deaths are one of the biggest things I try to ignore about the film, it really wouldn't be much a film without them. As you said about Book, his death is a catalyst for Mal - who's finally had enough. And Wash's death outlines just how much they all had to lose. Either that or Joss is trying to tell us that healthy, mature loving relationships are doomed.

Another favorite line is Jayne's about some grenades being nice. ;)

Another favorite line is Jayne's about some grenades being nice. ;) I love the sarcastic tone to that line too and the fact that he does bring the grenades to the Reaver fight :) Of course I also love Jayne's remark about offering tea and dumplings to River and his delight in the tussle in the bar - but I tried to not inflict my total Jayne love onto everyone! :DD

I know it differs sooooo much! It didn't help that I only finished the series the week before I saw the movie for the first time either *pouts*
