I haven't seen the last flight of skaters yet, but, I have been reading the buzz. What I had read and was repeated by Jamie Sale on "Out Front" with Erin Burnett on CNN a short time ago is two of the judges on the panel were: 1. Yuri Balkov (I think I got that last name correct), who was disciplined and not allowed to judge for one year after a Canadian judge (possibly Jean Senft) taped him trying to arrange judges' votes for the ice dance competition in Nagano, and 2. someone who is married to a current general director of the Russian figure skating federation.

I was and still am upset about the SD marks. It appears as though I will be frothing at the mouth by the time I'm done watching the ladies' FS. If Kurt Browning was driven to shocked silence, I know it had to be bad! :(

It's so ludicrous to me that the judges who get caught cheating are allowed back after suspensions! They should be banned for LIFE. And that someone married to a fed president can be a judge is just...WTF!! Lori Nichol also mentioned how many former Soviet countries there are.

It's just so disappointing. Adelina had a great skate, and I think a bronze would have been very earned for her. But Yuna and Carolina should have been above her.

SIGH.

Yeah. I was not able to watch live, but I was Twitter-watching, so I thought, "Well, maybe she'll be really good when you get to see the long program tonight!" Yeah, not so much. She could have maybe stayed ahead of Carolina on points - barely, maybe, if the judges were being just a bit generous - but ahead of Yu Na? By that much? Heck no. Even if Yu Na looked tenser than normal.

I also found myself wondering if it was sort of a consolation prize to Russia (and Putin) for the Russian hockey team not making the medal round. I'm not actually seriously suggesting some sort of conspiracy, and yet.

Just in general the Russian skaters were overmarked at these Games, which sadly was not a surprise at all. I mean, Adelina did have a great skate -- but it couldn't compare to Carolina and Yuna as a whole package.

I feel like the corruption in skating is back with a vengeance. It probably never went away, but when you see the gold medal winner hugging one of the judges who is married to the prez of the Russian skating federation, it's rather mind-boggling. :|

Sigh.
