I only stopped teaching last month (I'm still being paid). But a two-hour commute and staying at my parents' house during the week for an 80% job was no longer feasible. I also am not a Kid person. One of regular critiques I received was that I treated high school kids like adults. I felt that as long as they did their best in my class and treated each other respectfully, I didn't care what they did. I also did poorly with parents. And in recent years, the best students were most often girls (and I really don't want to end up in bed with them, even in dreamland). Before that, I was at a boys' school.
