I know a couple of vidders, but the dilemma is finding usable stuff in the public domain that will actually serve as good marketing tools for your book.

Honestly? The only books I've seen using trailers as advertising are self-published romance/erotica things (usually paranormal.) And they haven't been very vigilant about using public domain resources or purchased stock. I'm not sure it's a great way to drum up attention. It doesn't say a derned anything about the book, in truth, and who actually pays attention to them? I could be very wrong, though! This is just my experiences ...

These are really very interesting points you make, quickreaver. I really appreciate hearing about what you think vis-à-vis book trailers. I've started playing around with iMovie on my laptop (hell, my kids know how to use it, how difficult could it be?), using public domain photos (thanks Morgandawn for links to this stuff), plus stuff from photographer friends and my own camera. Music will be harder, but not impossible.

I'm mostly having so much fun with it, just learning how to do it is the journey. But I want the end product to look good and adequately represent the book. I'd probably just link it here and on my website and perhaps at the publishing co's website. I've seen ok ones for bigger name books, but I have no idea who looks at them, or how many books (if any) they sell.

It's an awesome excuse to play with a program, truth! I have a huge amount of respect for folks who can edit vids. Heck, I can barely animate a simple gif. If it looks less-than-professional, though, it'll do you more harm than good. Guess that's all I'm saying. (I illustrate covers for e-books and I'm eternally fascinated by the morphing of today's publishing world.)

Are you at liberty to say who you'll be publishing with?
