Big Pink's List of Top 10 TV Couples of the Last Decade

Dec 14, 2009 15:42

Continuing in my quest to compile random tv-related lists, here are the duos that made me sit up and take notice in the last ten years. I’m afraid there are some repeats from my last list of top ten TV characters, but there’s some new stuff in here too!

You mentioned Josh Lyman yesterday, and you're not going to include Josh and Donna? I loved their dynamic right from the first moments of Episode 1. His showing up at the hospital in Germany after she was injured in Gaza? Soooo sweet. Heartbreaking. I don't know that I entirely agree with them ending up as Josh/Donna, but their friendship (and devotion to each other under those terms) was a classic.

Can I make a confession? I was such a Josh-Amy fan that I had a hard time really getting behind Josh-Donna. And then, the corker was the Janel Moloney played a really hateful character on Brotherhood (teaming up with Jason Isaacs again, though they didn't share a scene in Brotherhood). I liked Donna with Colin Ayers the reporter. SIGH.

Actually, if I had to pick a couple from WW, it would be CJ and Danny Concannon. Whew. Chemistry. And the fish? Aw. The fish.

I'll add a couple:

John/Aeryn on Farscape were the definition of love thru hardship.

All the couples on Everwood, romantic and friendship. Ephram/Amy, Ephram-Bright, Dr Abbott/Rose, Bright/Hannah, Edna/Irv, Andy-his kids. I loved Everwood so hard.

The Scoopy Gang from BtVS. Yes, it's cheating, but I loved Buffy-Willow-Xander just as much as I loved early Buffy/Angel. Now I feel compelled to add Angel-Cordy-Wesley from Angel. Love that gang of misfits.

Sorry for the edits, but I had to pop back in to say, I just finished S2 of Dexter, and Frank Lundy was so amazingly awesome. Luv him!!! Poor, Deb. That girl is so never gonna be loved. I've heard S3 isn't as good as the previous ones. I'm torn between starting S3 or popping some oldie but goodies back in for a rewatch. Farscape has recently taken over my brain, so that will probably win out for now.

I think my next list will be favourite ensemble casts of the 00s. I gotta few.

I adore Tami and Eric, both together and apart. Did you see last week's where Tami is spitting mad at Julie and as she passes by Gracie in the high chair, casually states, "You are my favorite daughter." So funny and always so true to life.

LOVE Tami (see earlier post about favourite characters). I'm always watching this show with my A2 and looking at him and hoping that he realizes that I'm takin' NOTES.

I'm not quite sure how, when compiling a list of top TV couples, you could leave Johnny Depp and Peter Delouise (as Tom Hanson and Doug Penhall) for the astounding '21 Jump Street'.

Fine; I'll give you that the show has been OFF the air for close to twenty years, and that from the beginning, the partnership of the 'McQuade brothers' was considerably tilted in a Depp direction, but really?

REALLY?

What kind of over-priced Canadian wine are you drinking up there?

What is this Jump Street of which you speak? Oh, yes, I believe it's a program that existed back in the Mists of (Prime) Time. What are some of your other suggestions? The Cartwright Brothers?

Canadian wine is cheap, not overpriced. Really, really cheap. In fact, it may not be wine.

Again I can't say I know much of the above *except the obvious exception, points to icon* but I do agree that some pairs, as a couple or friends, often bring so much to a show.

I really like the House and Wilson friendship on House. Poor Wilson takes so much shit, but he hangs in there. and once in a while, House does an extraordinary gesture and you see why it's worth it.

Winters and Nixon in Band of Brothers is a great friendship, too.

You know, I love House quite a bit. I watch it with the girlchild. It's really well written.

Because you reminded me, on the airplane out to Victoria (where I am right now), I chose to watch the first ep of Band of Brothers on the "personal selection" we got on Air Canada. I had forgotten how truly great this miniseries was. I now want to re-watch the whole damn thing. Winters-Nixon ROCKS. Thanks!
