So my hen night last night was awesome. I would put pictures up, except I don't have the necessary stuff to get said pictures from my phone onto the university computer system.
First of all I went over to
jslayeruk's, so that we could finalise some of the arrangements for next week and to get a bit of the material for her dress (the cake lady wants to match the flowers on the cake to the colour of J's dress...) When she (finally!) got the phone call telling us it was time to go, we walked out of her house and two steps down the road, where she promptly blindfolded me and pinned L plate badges on me. She then led me through Orpington blindfolded, dressed in school uniform and rather concerned about the possibility of colliding with a tree. When we got to where we were going, somebody put a tiara and a 'Bride to Be' sash on me, and then took off the blindfold to reveal
serenasnape,
paranoid_blonde,
distractogirl and
happy_rainbow, all in school uniform, and in the bowling alley. I was then presented with my first gift of the day - an abacus.
We went upstairs, where the forfeits were produced and rules explained - no talking about significant others, relationships or marriage, and no complaining of feet hurting. We played two games and J and Jen each had to do a forfeit for winning a game. We got loads of funny looks from small children and chavs, and then
feebica appeared while we were eating chips (having 'not left Southampton yet' when she phoned an hour before we were supposed to be meeting...) As we were leaving the bowling alley, the guy at the counter asked who was getting married, and then presented me with a helium balloon and a 'trixie lucky bag' (which, if anyone's interested, contained hairbands, sweets and a sheet of jokes).
When we reached Orpington High Street I was then blindfolded again and led onto a mystery bus by Serena (to whom I was handcuffed at the time; I forget why.) After falling over on the bus and then taking longer than three old ladies put together to get off the bus without falling over, I was then led off somewhere else. I had been expecting us to be in Bromley, but it was too quiet to be central Bromley - I figured we had to be somewhere residential. I only twigged where we were seconds before the blindfold was taken off, and sure enough, there we were outside Newstead. I was then given my second lot of presents - pudding, haribo sweets and an incredible photo montage of all of us at school (I'm guessing put together by Jen - thank you so much sweetie!) We then took photos of us outside the gates (using timers on cameras, which involved much squealing and running), one of Jen climbing over the gates ('just to prove it could be done'), and one of us around the 'Newstead Avenue' sign. We then did 'the walk' along Newstead Avenue and went to get a bus into Bromley.
When we got to Bromley we went to Wetherspoon's, ostensibly to harrass Rachel's sister, but ended up staying and having a drink. Sarah had to do a forfeit, which involved the removal of clothing in a public place, and then we went to Pizza Hut, where Katy joined us. The waiters in Pizza Hut were very good-humoured about our party whistles and noise, and even went so far as to switch on the Ice Cream Factory for us.
We then went to Walkabout, who wouldn't let me or Kat in because we didn't have proper ID, and nor would the Swan or the funny karaoke place. So we ended up in the good old Railway. The remaining forfeits were paid (but did J actually blag a free drink? I don't remember that taking place...) and we even got a guy from the next table to join in and do a dare, for which we bought him a pint. We played 'I Have Never' for a bit and then J made a really nice speech and gave me my last present - the handcuffs. I then had to guess the theme of the day, which was 'growing up'.
I got home just before 1am after we all dispersed (damn buses!), and the helium balloon (which was still tied round my wrist) had a run-in with the windchime my mum's put at the bottom of the stairs, but fortunately didn't wake anyone up.
I had a wonderful time yesterday guys, and it was lovely to be able to catch up with people I haven't seen in a while. I love how we can not see each other for ages and then just pick up where we left off. I think that's really special. Thank you all for coming and for giving me such a lovely day.
