An unintended consequence of of having a nation with a requirement for legal due process during a severe economic downturn is that sometimes states can discover that capital punishment is just too damn expensive. I don't know why, but this is sort of a mixed bag for me. Is 'life in prison' any less expensive?

Maybe they'll stop jailing small-time drug offenders, or the "three strikes your out" rule.
