I was 7. I just finished reading Richard Ben Cramer's great book What It Takes: The Way to the White House. It is a very detailed account of the '88 race and contains LOTS of stuff about Joe. I highly recommend it!

I'm so glad I found this community - like so many others, I thought I was the only one!
