Another stupid political entry

Nov 05, 2004 01:05

I've stayed away from livejournal for the last month or so. That may be because I have been watching a steady diet of ABC, CNN and Comedy Central. I just feel like saying that, because I want everyone to know that I wrote this down Wednesday night and worked on it this morning. I had not read the bevy of political journals posted over the last ( Read more... )

You know, gays won't be killed but it's not going to be a walk in the park for them here on out. Even if Kerry was elected, he supported anti-gay laws on the state level. He wasn't going to do anything to stop it.

It's really just a combination of Bush winning (and i could almost see it coming, although i never really accepted it during the campaign), Bunning winning and the amendment getting passed in all 11 states that has me bitter.

I like these comments Bill. I think you and I feel the same way on why this year's election turned out the way it did. I also think that you and I are on the same page politically as well. In 1970, I probably would have been a Republican ( ... )

i agree with you as well. the time for gay marriage isn't here and won't be for quite some time. however, my thinking is that enough people who voted for bush could have been swayed by a candidate who was more upfront about who and what he was. i don't think swing voters wanted a candidate any more liberal than john kerry. that's why howard dean was a bad idea. i think they did want john kerry to be honest about who he was.

living in kentucky, i know the gay marriage boat would have sailed despite anything anyone had done. however, i do think kerry could have swung enough voters in crucial states if he had come off as more honest.

i do think that kerry did not let people know what he truly was about, especially for the first 3/4 of the election. but one time he did show who he really was was during the presidential debates when he spoke his feelings on religion and gay marriage and despite his feelings he didnt think it was fair to impose his personal beliefs on others. that is the very most disturbing thing i find in bush. i am worried about the 22% of exit pollers who said they voted for bush on his moral beliefs. not everyone's a christian. but back to the matter at hand i don't think many people fully let kerry explain himself. yes he could have done it better but people called him a flip-flopper then disregarding anything he had to say afterwards as bullshit.
