Day #25.Best Friend

The coveted position of "Besties" has been vacated as of late due to equal parts Deceit + Death. Lately, I've leaned in on ol' reliable, my hole-in-the-wall Local Library. Happiest place on earth, srsly. That or the bottom of a bottle, I swear its like being 15 all over again!

My happiest place in the world is the Union Square Barnes & Noble. I used to work in the offices above the store, and it was three glorious years of being a kid in a candy store. Once there was an overcrowded Chuck Palahniuk reading, so I left the store, went back up to the office, and walked down the stairs to the landing that was just on the other side of a door from the event. I could hear him fine since he had a mike, and I had the entire stairway to myself and peered in through the door window when I felt like standing up. That is still my most favoritest job location ever.

I am jealous of all these things you said HERE ;D
...that & your my Book Nook is still standing. It trumped mine in fact but will never win its place in my heart. Mine was the B+N that used to be on Astor Place/8th. It had a literal 'hole-in-the-wall' bench I spent the better part of three years worth of lunches tucked into. It had creaky floors and mysterious stacks. It was amazing... and then the on on Union Square opened and it was deemed superfluous. I cried when it closed.

I adored that location, too! Are you talking about the bench that was next to the stairs by the SF section? I sat there anytime it was empty, but there was usually someone (ahem!) or a couple making out in it! We might've seen each other in passing years before we met. I agree that the Astor Place location was a helluva character. Oh, you should draw the Astor Place B&N as a person! I think you could do something really cool and interesting with that.

I was also sad when the B&N on 6th Ave. in Chelsea shut down, though I never really liked the layout there that much. The B&N College Bookstore on 5th is nice with rooms going deeper and deeper and that half floor with the art books.

Just had to say that I totally understand the lack of a BFF due to deceit (unfortunately for us both) - and I completely agree with the library. The last year especially, I've spent a great deal of time with books, and as I'm broke, the library has been my savior... most likely literally. I've read SO much in the past year, it's kinda crazy, but also good and even somewhat frustrating. Crazy... I don't want to try to count the number of books!
Good... have discovered a number of new authors!
Frustrating... I still read too damn fast and I want to read more books when they come out, but I have to limit myself because of funds.
In closing, I really do need some kind of book/reading icon. Hmmm.
