Four Things

Four things that people call me:

Mary
Mum
BG
Madam. (And yes, that last one burns, but I live in a very polite culture, if not quite Canadianly polite, and at least nobody's calling me 'oy, you, yes you, you old bat.')

Fun meme, and great answers.

I gather you liked Canada? So do I, but it's a bit cold. I warn you.

I love love love bread. It's pretty easy to get the good stuff in my neighborhood. njs

I love Canada. Last year I got to visit for the first time - I've been wanting to go since I was at least twelve. The Canadians on the plane were happily bemused but kindly joined in as the plane came down to land and I started singing Oh Canada. I suspect they thought I was mentally unhinged (they may be right) but on the other hand they humoured the crazy lady and sang along.

I went to Toronto in summer so it wasn't too cold, I hear it is a completely different city in winter.

My Dad makes good bread - I'll see if I can wangle some recipes off him for you. I know one of them involves on 330ml bottle of pale ale, a pound (I think) of strong white flour, a pinch of sugar and a pinch of salt, sit it on the tray for half an hour, then you have the world's easiest savoury bread. He's used that recipe to make a pizza base as well. I'll just check with him what the proportions are.

Do follow up with your father - that recipe sounds easy and delicious.

My husband and I loved Canada, too, but the winters are...um...challenging. Last year one of my Ottawa friends posted pictures of piles of snow yet to melt in April. And not 1 April, either. It's bad enough having piles of snow on the ground on 8 March. FanSee

I have stolen this.

I do hope you get to take your girl-friend to Ireland.

I hope so. She's had a bad few years, and because of the nature of the area she lives in she's been reluctant to come out. Not so much because of herself, but because she doesn't want her boys to be bullied. However, it's clear to her now that they a) know, b) don't care and c) have each other's backs. She says she feels silly at our age to be afraid of coming out to her Mum, but I've told her she is underestimating her mother. I'm almost a hundred percent certain her Mum already knows. (I had that weird conversation where the parent is hinting around topics such as 'are your intentions honourable,' and 'how do you plan to look after my grandchildren?')

The poor lady.

I'm glad it's all okay with her boys.

Parents do tend to know.
