"Usagi's wearing a transformation brooch, it's not standard."
I could not help but grin like an idiot at this line. XD
Somewhat more seriously, it seems like among the Magic Knights, Umi's going to be the only one whose school uniform (Ohtori middle) comes close to her color in-series ... not that I mind the thought of Fuu in Mahora middle's plum colors, but is there enough room to justify characters being in their canonical colors? Or would that be stretching it too far during school events?
Most of the schools are fairly lax, however, and will allow personal touches: ties, ribbons, socks, sweaters, etc. If your character is from a theme with a unique uniform, you can make a blend of the two! Played characters often get away with more personal touches to their uniforms.
They can always wear a tie or a sweater or whatever in their color. That's pretty common for important characters anyway. And their in-show colorscheme can be part of their transformation.
It did occur to me that I was probably asking a stupid question ... but having their uniforms change color when they transform would make even more sense in some ways - it adds to the secrecy of their identity, plus the Knights' magical elements match their canonical uniform colors.
