I write like me.

A friend from my writing group sent the following link:

http://iwl.me

I put in several texts and got disparate results including: Kurt Vonnegut, Ernest Hemingway and Chuck Palahniuk. Not sure if I agree or what to make of that, but it's fun nonetheless.

Who do you get?

I got Chuck and Margaret Atwood. I think I like that combination.

An interesting combination, yes.

I imagine it would vary significantly by purpose- but of the text I entered I got Mark Twain.

What do you mean by purpose? Do you mean the type of text? Scientific paper versus fiction story versus news paper article? Yes, I believe that would make a big difference.

Yeah... that and also just intention and inspiration. Most of my livejournal is documenting/lists/basic run-down for later reference. Some of it's totally selfish analysis and venting. But occasionally, rarely, I actually 'write'.

Indeed. The work I submitted wasn't from my journal but chapters to a book I am working on. I consider it more "actual writing" than what I have here. I suspect if I used blog entries my results would be different as well.

Yes, I would "hmmm" about that one too. Did you put in blog entries or some other writing?

Interesting. It does make you wonder why and what aspects of your writing align with his.

There are only 50 writers in the program and a good chance that Doc Savage isn't one of them. So there is also a chance that you've got that style down pat and they just can't place it - not because your writing isn't spot on, but because they don't recognize it.

I know of two other people getting David Foster Wallace as well; both are writers who work I appreciate.
