Penny's been in Juliet's room, giggling over JD's latest journal entry and generally acting like schoolgirls. JD's been good for them both, it seems. Mostly her, because she knows she hasn't been the most social person ever. She spends a lot of time with Juliet for no reason other than they come from the same world... And she knows (knew?) Desmond. Knew he was safe and waiting for her if she could ever get out.

She's come to the common room with a cup of tea in hand and the minute she notices Johnny, she freezes a bit before finally walking over to him.

"I never really got the opportunity to thank you after the funeral. It was just a simple gesture, but... It meant a lot to me. Thank you."

Johnny blinks out of the migraine related haze he'd been in and smiles at her, shaking his head, rather slowly.

"It wasn't a... problem at all."

Ah, yes. The speech thing is starting to get hard.

"Really. I'm just glad I could be there. It helped me to be able to y'know, reach out." There's a first time for everything. Usually touching equals... not at all of the good.

Penny smiles. "I don't normally break down like that. It's one of those things they teach you at those fancy finishing schools- a lady doesn't cry in front of strangers or some rubbish. I was never very good at that though. Emotions tend to get the best of me in situations where I try to be strong and..."

She shakes her head. "Sorry," she says, waving a hand vaguely. "I'm rambling."

She looks him over with the intentions of changing the subject, frowning. "How are you feeling?"

It's not that she knows about the tumor- it's just that he looks like hell.

"I think there's more strength in being vulnerable enough to let your emotions show." Johnny smiles and gives a vague shrug. "Or so I had to tell myself through months of physical therapy. Holding the tears in just made it harder to get through."

He's still smiling, but he doesn't look at her when he continues.

"Okay." Well, that's not really true and it's obvious. "Alive. I mean, I could be worse, considering."

And he has been worse and it will get worse. Johnny doesn't know it yet, but it will get much worse for Penny, too.
