Sophie Devereaux is rarely someone that anyone would consider a gift. It isn't that she's not a nice person, she's just usually only nice enough for that kind of praise when she's trying to steal something. It's just the way she is.

This is the reason why when she wakes up in what could be a brown cardboard box, she's incredibly confused. She frowns, her head tipping to the side as she tries to look over her situation, before starting to push at the walls. This ... is not good. This is not good at all.

Panic and claustrophobia start to kick in and she begins to struggle against the walls of the box, pushing as hard as she can to get away and get out, when she feels the box start to lose it's balance and tip too far to one side.

"Oh no," she gasps as she feels herself start to fall, "oh no no no no ... ow!"

She hits the ground with a thud!, before she sighs heavily ( ... )

It's not that Sonny is paranoid. Okay, that is not true at all. When one works in the business that he works in, he has to be paranoid or he risks his own life and everyone that works under him in the process. It's not something he's willing to take chances with.

At the same time, he is well aware of the Rift's fuckery especially during this time of the year. It's like it's all it can do to make people's lives as weird as possible.

So he wouldn't be surprised if this was Rift induced and not some attempt to get information from him or to potentially kill him, but it's not like he's going to take any chances. Sonny sees the present on the floor, steps out of his bed as it topples over to the floor.

"...what the fuck."

Sonny reaches for his gun, which is always kept close by before stepping up to the gift, listening closely to it.

Definitely something living inside. Question is what. Also, he's in his pajamas which the narration cannot even imagine what his version of pajamas are and imagines very few people have ever seen him ( ... )

She stops struggling when she hears someone swear and just listens for a moment. Maybe if she recognizes the voice, maybe she could tell who it is, and get them to help her by letting her out.

And then he speaks again, and she knows who it is in a second.

"Sonny?" she shouts through the cardboard. "Let me out!"

Sonny listens carefully to the box, and he immediately recognizes the voice as well. What the fuck? This is the question that will continue to echo through his head over and over.

"Sophie? Yeah, I'm on it," he says, reaching over to open the box with his pocket knife. It's heavy duty tape that's bound it together, and fuck the rift for doing this shit to people...

When he gets the tape cut through, he opens the lid of the box, looking in with concern. "You alright?" Usually people end up in boxes because they're dead. At least in his experience.

At the moment, Sophie is grateful for two things: one, that she is actually clothed, and two, that she landed in the room of someone she knew. This would have gotten much more awkward if she hadn't. She uses the edges of the box to pull herself up, before nodding.

"Everything seems to be in order. Apparently the Rift decided to share actual people for Christmas."

Sonny stares at her in confusion. He is very glad that she is clothed too as that seems to be the best for them both at this point. This situation really shouldn't get any more embarrassing for her, and he holds a hand out to her to help her out of the box should she need it.

Hey, he can be gentlemanly like. "The fuck," he says. "I can safely fuckin' say this is the first year it's done that."

She takes his hand, and slowly gets to her feet. And yes, she is clothed. Thankfully.

"I'd hope so -- that can be rather startling for all parties involved." And a little dangerous to say the least.

"How did it even get me here?"

Clothes are always very good. Sonny might be somewhat awkward without them. It's not like he spends much time around unclothes women, not in decades.

"Yeah, startling's one way of putting it," Sonny says in agreement, nodding and grimacing slightly.

"...the Rift can do just about fucking anything including transport you against your will."

She takes a breath at that, smoothing over her clothes and trying to regain some of her dignity. She did just climb out of a box like some kind of poorly planned gag gift, but that is another matter entirely.

"Well. That's just wonderful. How considerate of it.

"That's the Rift for you," Sonny says with a smirk, folding his arms across his chest and gesturing toward the door. It leads into his office, and he's gentleman enough that he'll make sure she gets back safely. "I can give you a ride back to... wherever you're trying and a drink. It might be a little, fuckin' early."

Some would say.

"Hardly," she sighs softly. "In these kinds of situations, it's never too early."

And she means that a little more honestly than she should. She takes a breath and follows his lead making her way into his office.

"Then you'll have a drink, on the fuckin' house," Sonny promises as he heads into the office and then out into the main bar.

He's not exactly dressed, but neither is she and the bar is basically empty at this hour. Anyone could wander down into it from upstairs, but no on has.

"Any specific preferences at this hour?"

"Scotch," she sighs as she goes to sit on one of the stools. "A double, would be good." Usually she only drinks scotch with Nate, but this is a special occasion.

This is a very special occasion.

"Good taste," Sonny says with a smirk before he fills up a drink for her and sets it in front of her. He fills up one for himself as well. "When you're ready to go back, we'll get you a cab."

He's a gentleman like that.

"You are kind soul," she sighs, before picking up the drink, and taking a slow sip. "I have to admit, this is not what I expected from the Rift. Monsters, mayhem -- sure. But putting people in boxes? Seems almost a little too harmless."

"Yeah, don't fucking trust that thing," Sonny says, shaking his head and reaching for a drink of his own. "it'll do harmless as long as it embarrasses the fuck out of someone."
