[party post] she climbed backwards out her window into outside over there.

Once upon a time, there was an alternate city of Chicago, the lovely people residing in it, and many Rifts placing these people into various different predicaments, spanning from the humorous to the perplexing to the utterly heartbreaking. Wondrous different people, of all shapes and sizes. So it has been, and so it will be, for years and lifetimes ( Read more... )

Bela is in the middle of Grant Park when it happens. She was wearing appropriate clothing for the weather. She was actually quite warm. And then in a matter of seconds, she is absolutely freezing.

She glances down, and she finds herself in a very thin, almost toga like attire, and heavy shackles around her wrists. Apparently, the Rift is placing quite a literal angle on her 'unpaid debt.'

Needless to say, Bela is not pleased.

She shakes her wrists, trying to shove them off and not freeze to death all at the same time. Someone wish her luck with that.

Damon has not discovered what the Rift has done to him yet. He did have a weird run in with some old woman in a black cloak earlier. Literally, he ran into her and he may have been a complete ass about it like he has a tendency to do. She then turned back with a finger saying he was Cursed and muttering other words under her breath which he would understand if they were actual words. Naturally, this isn't something he takes lightly but before he could snap her neck or grab hold of her and question her.

He doesn't feel any differently though so maybe it was just some crazy old woman without a single ability to curse anyone.

Damon steps through the park, freezing when he sees Bela and raising his eyebrows appreciatively.

"Hot outfit."

Damon, this is not the proper response.

Damon is probably one of the last people she wants to run into right now. In fact, the only person she wants to see less is Dean Winchester, and he's not in Chicago. She looks up at the sound of his voice, and rolls her eyes before responding.

"Actually, it's quite freezing," she comments dryly. "But thank you for noticing."

Damon moves forward. He would not be apologetic even if he knew she did not want to see him unfortunately. It's not how he rolls. However, he is going to try to help remove her shackles with his vampire strength.

"I'd bet," he says with a smirk. "Always happy to notice these things, Bela. Do you want me to try to break them off?"

With his super strength and all... that he has. Ahem.

Though it's possible that the Rift made those shackles unbreakable.

Well, considering that thanks to the Rift, she ain't paying that debt anytime soon, those shackles are quite unbreakable. But Bela doesn't know that, so Damon is more than welcome to try.

"Please?" she sighs, holding her hands out to him. "I'm not sure what the Rift is trying to prove, but it could have at least left me my coat."

The narration figured that was the case as the Rift is sneaky like that, but Damon will definitely try anyway.

"I'll give it a try." He moves forward, reaching for the shackles and trying to break them using all his vampire strength. No dice. They don't even dent a little. He frowns. "Looks like the Rift wants you in bondage today, Bela."

"Lovely," she sighs as she lets her arms drop a bit. They're heavy, but not as heavy as they could be, at least in theory. And God only knows how long this is going to last as well.

She raises her hands again, to test at least the length of them. They are enough to get in the way, but not enough that she couldn't still work. Small blessings, apparently.

"If it were breakable, I would have been able to break it," Damon says with a shrug as he shakes his head. It is not breakable though quite clearly, not even a little bit.

He grimaces a little, taking off his leather jacket and holding it out to her if she wants it. She would be warmer. "You should move inside."

She takes the jacket from him with a grateful smile, before finagling a way to wrap it around her shoulders. It's a bit warmer, at least, which she's grateful for. "I should probably head back to the Kashtta until this ... passes."

Hopefully it wouldn't be for more than a day. Hopefully.

"It would be warmer and there'd be less spit to clean off the sidewalks from everyone's drooling," Damon says, actually smiling-smirking at her before he inclines his head in that direction. "I have business there so c'mon..."

Whether or not he actually has business there is unclear to the narration. It may be that he's overly obsessive about protecting people he gives a damn about even more so than usual after what happened to Josef.

As much as Bela likes to project that she can handle herself and take care of herself, she doesn't mind people being protective. She's never had it, and she's starting to learn that it's a nice feeling. Just don't tell her it to her face. That she might shoot you for.

And there also may have been a slight blush at that compliment. Or maybe it was the cold. Who can tell?

She nods and falls in step next to him, tightening the jacket around herself as she does. Her eyes wander over the streets as they go, frowning a bit as she sees all of the odd things wandering the streets.

"What is the Rift up to now?"

Damon would never dream of telling her that to her face, because he would never dream of admitting out loud that he would be so protective of someone. Other than Elena who everyone gets at this point that he's overly protective of.

They can both not admit their true feelings together. If he notices the flush of her cheeks, Damon doesn't comment on it, but the narration has a feeling he does and smiles a little.

There's a horse walking along with a knight on top.

"Fairy tales escaping the pages of their books? Great." Damon pauses. "...and now I'm starting to wonder if that old woman I ran into earlier was actually a witch." Damon grimaces at that very real possibility.

Bela's eyes are drawn to the horse for a minute, before her attention is snapped back to Damon. Witches where she's from aren't all that powerful -- the need a demon to back whatever power they do have. But they're nasty people, and not someone you want looking to seek any kind of vengeance.

"You encountered a witch?"

"Literally. I ran into her," Damon says with a slight grimace at the memory, and he might have been an asshole afterward, but it's Damon. It's what he does. "And she turned around, muttered some made up language, and said Cursed."

And now he's starting to think she was more than an old, crazy, homeless woman.

That ... did not sound right. Bela isn't sure what kind of witch he happens to have bumped into but it doesn't sound like something she's used to.

"Made up or dead language?"

"Made up language as far as I can tell," Damon mutters, and he doesn't know every language every but he does know a handful.

"It sounded unintelligible. With my luck, it's a language in some universe." Whose magic somehow works Here.
