Sophie didn't used to do much walking, but she's found she's been doing a lot more in Chicago. It's the only way to get around when you don't have a car or the means to get one, though that could be changing relatively soon. For right now, though -- she walks.

She happens to be walking past the playground when she spots a lone teenager sitting on the jungle gym. It's a bit odd, considering that school started that day, but what really catches her attention are the brightly colored wings. She hasn't met a local Rift angel or demon, at least not that she's aware of, and -- she's momentarily entranced. That's enough to get her moving closer.

"They're beautiful."

"Huh?" Dusty looks up, a bit confused by the attention, but smiles brightly at Sophie when she realizes that Sophie's actually talking to her. "Oh! Thank you! They get in the way sometimes, but I like them most of the time."

She fluffs them up a bit and stretches them a little. "Your hair's really pretty! It's a real nice color."

"Thank you!" Never let it be said that Sophie isn't one to take a compliment. Her hand wanders back and she fluffs her hair a bit. "You know, it's my natural color? I've never dyed it."

"Wow, really?" Dusty leans forward a little, dropping the ends of her friendship bracelet and swinging her legs a little. "My mom got me some highlights a couple years ago, but they didn't really look much different since I'm blonde anyway? I'm Dusty, by the way!"

"Sophie. It's nice to meet you, Dusty." She pauses when the swinging pieces of embrodiery floss catch her eye, and she smiles. "I remember making those when I was a girl. Are you making them for someone special?"

"A couple of 'em," Dusty answers, unpinning the one she's working on from her pants and tucking it into a pocket on her bag. "But this one doesn't have an owner yet. I gotta wait and see who gets it! 'Cause I hope I make lots of friends and then I'll be able to give them one, and I'll wear one, and it'll be awesome!"

"It certainly sounds like it. And there are plenty of people in Chicago. I'm sure you'll find one for that one sooner than you think." This girl reminds her a bit of Parker, but with a lot more sunshine. It's rather endearing.

... And this is how Sophie winds up adopting people.

"Oh, probably!" Dusty says brightly. "Especially 'cause sometimes you can make a person's day by being nice to them and giving them something."

Dusty tilts her head at Sophie for a moment, thinking, "Are you the Sophie from the journals that I talked to? About my music?"

It takes her a moment to place the conversation, but when she does, her face brightens a bit. "The girl with the cello, yeah?"

She doesn't forget conversations, it's a skill she's honed with the job she does, but with the journals it's a little harder. There's no face to put to the handwriting.

"Yep, that's me!" Dusty grins widely. "You're even prettier than I thought you'd be! I'm definitely making you a bracelet, you're real nice, and were really nice to me when I was having a bad day, even though you were kinda having a bad day too? And that means, y'know, a lot!"

Sophie gives her a wide smile before nodding. "Well, that's very sweet of you, love. Have you managed to track down a cello yet?"
