Helen does not look amused. When she woke up this morning, Helen discovered that her voice was gone entirely. Every attempt to make any sort of noise results in failure. Thankfully, she made this discovery before leaving to head out into the world and managed to find a pad of paper and a pen to keep with her, just in case. Still, she's not at all pleased with this turn of events.

And of course, a bad day just gets worse, because Helen is only out and about for something like five minutes before she accidentally drops her pen and it slips into a sewer drain.

Really... She mouthes, angrily, staring at the ground as if gravity itself is to blame.

Helen rolls her eyes and throws her hands up in defeat. She looks at Shawn as if to ask what she's meant to do in the meantime, but doesn't bother writing it down. She's tired of writing everything down, damnit.

"You know, I really think a hot dog might be the answer to your problems." If nothing else, it might give her something to distract her from what the rift has done to her. She seems like she might need it.

At first, Helen nearly gives Shawn a very rude hand gesture, but she stops and thinks better of it. Reaching into her pocket, he retrieves her wallet and motions for him to go ahead and get her a hot dog. Now that she thinks about it, she is a bit hungry.

He shakes his head as she goes for her wallet. "They're free today." They're always free, actually, but eventually he's going to have to start charging for them. He at least knows it's not good business to have people get used to that. "Just tell me what you want on it."

There's a Parker nearby and she's just walking along. She's a little frustrated because she doesn't actually want to hug everyone, but it's happening anyway. She even let some old fart kiss her cheek. She's still shuddering about that.

But the Rift will do what it will do, and when she sees Helen in obvious dismay, something in her decides that Helen needs a hug. So she's going to stop and wrap her arms around the woman.

Helen was still peering down the storm drain when she felt a stranger closing in on her personal space. She turns just in time to feel Parker's arms slip around her. Shocked, but unable to make her protest audible, Helen tries to politely remove herself from the woman's grasp. This politeness includes gentle pushing and an attempt to step away from the surprise embrace.

Parker stumbles back with a slight pout. This isn't the first person to reject her hugs, but it's never a happy feeling. She's just trying to be nice. And, well, she can't help it.

"You looked like you needed a hug," she says carefully.

Helen catches sight of the pout and feels a bit bad, but her mood is sour and there's not much that can be done about that. She gestures to her throat and shakes her head.

This 'not being able to talk' thing is already frustrating. Helen was never great at charades.

There's a headtilt as Parker catches that motion. It's not a hard one to figure out.

"You can't talk?" The pout is gone and in it's place is curiosity, maybe even a bit of puzzlement.

Helen nods enthusiastically. At least this girl isn't completely daft, even if she doesn't understand personal space.

She mimes writing with a pen, since hers has gone for a trip down the sewers.

Parker frowns because she doesn't have anything on her. She thinks for a moment, then darts off quickly. While gone she happens to "borrow" paper and pen from someone when they aren't looking. She returns and hands them to Helen.
