The last place Francis ever expected to be was Chicago, Illinois. This had little do with where the war was taking him, or what little free time he had left. Instead, this has everything to do with the fact that he was there when the orders to deploy nuclear warheads had been okayed. As far as he had known, Chicago was a nuclear wasteland, ( Read more... )

I couldn't help it. >.> doyoulikecake June 22 2010, 01:26:15 UTC
The person whose shoulder he grabs happens to be someone who, upon first glance, is going to look more than a little familiar to Francis, despite the difference in clothing and hair and, you know, physical sex. Kaden's about to take a drink of his coffee (what, you thought there was a time he didn't have coffee?) when he's jostled by Francis. He doesn't quite whirl around, but he does turn, first making sure that he doesn't drop his coffee and second paying attention to Francis.

"Monday," he replies, then thinks the better of it and checks his watch to be sure. "Yeah, Monday." Right. Classes started today, and he has to teach tomorrow. It's always a little difficult to get back on track between terms, especially when all of his Stanford classes are online.

Then he just tilts his head at Francis, and starts to turn away.

Francis doesn't understand why the hell Kasey is pitching her voice like that, but it's not like it's the weirdest thing she's ever done. "Don't give me that bullshit," he says, reaching out to grab Kaden by the collar. "If you're going to play the know it all, you might as well tell me what year we're in."

Then Francis pauses, staring at Kaden for a long moment.

"What the hell are you wearing?"

The thing is, Kasey would prefer to pitch her voice like that but can't actually get away with it, and as she is not actually in this universe, that is neither here nor there.

Kaden, for his part, makes a rather annoyed noise when Francis grabs him, but hides his surprise fairly well. Being manhandled is something he's used to, and his first reaction is to roll with it. People generally dislike it when you just take their hits without fighting. Not that this man is hitting him.

Though he has spilled his coffee. Godammit.

Kaden's second reaction is to grab the other man's wrists. "An extremely expensive suit," he spits at him, completely ignoring the other...well, it wasn't a question. "Which I wouldn't have if I'd know I was going to be manhandled by a complete stranger."

Francis doesn't really give a shit what Kasey wants to do with her voice, as long as they win at the end of the day. He's also going to be mildly annoyed to find out that she's not here, but only because she owes him a favor. Favors are the best currency in war.

"Like you can't afford a new one," Francis says, giving Kaden an odd look. "And after all the shit you've put me through, you're seriously calling me a stranger? Like hell I'll save your sister next time she throws herself in the middle of a Rak and a hard place."

He pauses, staring at the suit and still looking perplexed. "But seriously. What the hell are you doing in a suit? Blood stains can't clean out of that nicely."
