The first thing EDEN always seems to remember is that sharp pinch. Unfortunately, one of the issues with being a terraforming model is that pain receptors had to be installed, in order to make sure human life could actually be sustained on the planet. After that pinch though, everything would boot up; first, PersonaOS and then EDEN would do a data ( Read more... )

The angel is staring at the weirdly pretty girl running about in traffic. Not because she's weirdly pretty, or running about in traffic, but because she just materialized there.

So that's what it looks like when someone falls out of a rift.

He's still staring when she scampers out of the road rather close to his place on the sidewalk. It's instinct to flinch away, even though that's hardly what anyone wants to see when you're begging and all. He can't really help it.

But that's just instinct; today's a good day. Despite everything, the past week has been pretty good. Go figure. So he'll help. Besides, he's only ever really interacted with one wanderer, and that was a bat.

"You're not--probably not going to get to it," he says, looking up at EDEN and shading his own eyes.

--delayed response. Systems not fully active; should do another check?

EDEN tilts her head, staring down at the man in front of her, not entirely sure what the protocol for these kinds of situations are. Smiling, she tucks her hair behind her ears, glancing over her shoulder, refusing to make him uncomfortable with the stare.

(All data loaded and functional.)

"Perhaps I've made it after all," she says, trying to calculate what's going on. This must be a tourist planet; what she's doing on a tourist planet, she has no idea.

Matoi wants to steal things? Chance is already on the ball on that one. Only instead of alcohol it's bread. Chance KNOWS that IN THEORY, with the whole 'foster family' thing she doesn't need to steal things any more, but there's a few things that one picks up while living for almost a years on the streets, and apparently stealing is one of them. Or maybe that's just Chance.

So she's casually holding a loaf of bread under one arm, and then she just reaches out and grabs a six pack of beer. Just for the hell of it. She gives Matoi a smirk and continues on her winding path through the store. A few more turns and then she's gonna make a break for it, assuming nothing goes wrong. Matoi could follow her or totally ruin things right now, either way Chance is determined to make it out of this without getting arrested again.

Matoi is going to make Chance's life a lot easier right now. Not for Chance's sake, mind you. For Matoi's. There's absolutely no reason for her to help Chance. It wouldn't make her life any better.

She pulls a smoke bomb out of her purse. It's always good idea to keep a smoke bomb on you, just in case.

She yanks the pin out, dropping the bomb on the floor. That gives her a good 10 seconds to wrangle up all the liquor in a hand held basket before the bomb goes off, filling the store with smoke. The distraction gives her a good chance to skip out of the store. Enjoy your break, Chance.

Wes is thinking, after the kind of week he's had? Yeah, he needs a six-pack. Or twenty of them. He's not sure, but he's willing to find out. It's why he's at the liquor store, trying to figure out what he's in the mood for.

The crappy week he's had--everyone's had--leads him to think not all the liquor in the world might solve this problem.

He steals a glance at Matoi, staring at her like he can't quite figure out what to say. "... Uh."

"Yes?" Matoi asks, glancing up at Wes with a displeased look on her face. She doesn't know why this man is talking to her. Well. She probably knows; she looks like she's fourteen in a liquor store.

That doesn't mean he needs to bother her.

She a bottle of whiskey, and turns it around, reading the label.

Elizabeth is outside of Tabitha's room, knocking on the door as loudly as she can.

"Tabitha?"

She will break down the door if necessary, because Tabitha can't be missing, too. She can't.

She doesn't allow the thought to cross her mind, but she does start to pound harder.

"It's me! Elizabeth!"

It takes Tabitha quite a few minutes to get to the door. She looks like hell; she's just wearing a slip and a pair of panties, and the slip is sticking to her skin from sweat. She probably wouldn't even have answered the door if she hadn't known it was Elizabeth. No point, really.

She leans against the threshold, letting her eyes fall to the ground. Elizabeth can tell her what she wants and then get on with something else. She's too tired to be standing anyway.

The sight of Tabitha frightens Elizabeth, not because she's scary, but Elizabeth is worried. She's so worried. There has been so much loss already, and she can't handle the thought of losing Tabitha, too. So soon.

Elizabeth presses her feet against the ground a few times. Awkwardly. She clears her throat, reaching a hand out and pulling it back again. It feels like touching her could break her into pieces that Elizabeth won't be able to hold on to.

"...can I hug you?"

"Okay," Tabitha says. Her voice is dull, and there's little emotion behind it. She's too tired to feel right now, and how she's glad for that. She's spent too much time hurting lately. Maybe the drugs are making her numb. Who knows.

It doesn't matter anymore. Nothing does, really.

Especially considering Elizabeth is next.
