J is considering just writing off Christmas in Chicago as a loss. This is the second one, and by all indications, it started off not treating him well and only intends to get worse in the future ( Read more... )

Suzie's currently in her room. There's a shrill, irrational part of her that thinks barricading herself there might be a good idea, in fact.

She's ignoring it.

Instead, she's taken a shower, had coffee, had more coffee, gone over what little information on Sark has surfaced (not much), checked her journal approximately ninety times, considered finding something to scream at, had still more coffee, looked over the stunning lack of information again, and is in the process of having a good pace, because it's that or curling into a whimpering ball in the corner.

She could be in a room with Thane right now and it wouldn't scare her as much as being in the same city as the Master.

...She's wondering when her life became an exercise in ranking trauma by degrees.

Sorry, Suzie, Chicago has no Thanes to offer. You'll have to make do with the large rottweiler whapping your door with his forepaw. He can smell the chemical distress cues coming out of your room, Suzie, and he doesn't approve.

Right. Everything would come crashing down on his head right when he's considering maybe taking an active interest in things again. It's enough to make him want to go back to Indiana again, except that three days in Indiana would probably have him going mad and setting up a fiefdom.

He waits for about two and a half seconds before snorting and rearing up to knock the door again, glaring at the knob. Come on, Suzie. Don't make me go all the way back to my room to get dressed and come back down here.

Or break down the door.

The whapping at the door gets Suzie coming quickly enough, opening the door a crack, with her braced against it so that she can force it shut again if she needs to ( ... )

J walks in, giving her an ears-back look at that observation. While I'm not surprised that this is the first thing you notice, I remain unconvinced that it's reasonable to assume that I haven't noticed it too.

He eyes the door as he steps in - more accurately, he eyes her controlling the door, and then drops his journal on the nearest non-floor horizontal surface. If Suzie would prefer that she not have dog feet on her desk or table or whatever, too bad.

That done, he turns to watch Suzie, sitting down smartly. She wanted to talk. He's listening.
