It doesn't hurt to ask. Usually.
She stops behind her, standing near but not too near.
"Are you alright?"

"I..." She tries on a polite-yet-confused expression. The last part, at least, is not so much pretense. "Pardon me. I realize this will sound rather a ridiculous question, but... where am I?"

"It... doesn't sound ridiculous," she says quietly, thinking that she really ought to be used to giving this speech by now. "You're in Chicago. 2009. It looks like you've just fallen through a Rift. They're breaks in time and space. I'm... afraid there's no way back to your own world."
It's always best to hit the main points quick, right? It's like pulling a band-aid off. The quicker, the better. As if anything can make this situation more bearable.

She shakes her head, bringing one hand to her forehead, trying to pull herself together. "Forgive me, please. I'm afraid the experience has left me a bit rattled."

Of course, there are a lot of kitties in Grant Park. This particular kitty is boxing her reflecting in the bean--a reflection which occasionally seems to be doing its own thing, bobbing up and down to avoid Cy's paws. She pauses in her game to look up at the Rani. Robbed of its playmate, her reflection stops to look up as well.
"Hi bombadier," she says. "You've got a timer in your head."

No person, anyway.
As she approaches her original position she spies the cat looking up at her. She regards it for a moment and then she snorts out a laugh.
"Right. I've bloody well lost it if I think a small feline was addressing me."

The Rani crouches, forearms resting on her knees, and stares at the cat.
"Right. Since you inexplicably speak--tell me where I am."

He teleports down beside the woman and stares at her from a few feet away, a smile adorning his child's face. He giggles a little, both because it should get a reaction and because he wants to see how it sounds with his new girlish voice.
