Robin Rice has a date. He tries not to think about what happened after his last first date. This is different. History won't repeat itself. It can't. There is some difficulty in forcing himself to believe it. He hopes when he sees her those fears and worries as paranoid as they are will melt away

Rachel takes one last look at herself in the full-length mirror before opening the door to greet Robin.
She's let her hair down in more ways than one. She's wearing a white dress, her mother's bracelet, and minimal make up.
More importantly, she's smiling, too.
"Hi." Leaning slightly against the door frame, Rachel's smile widens at the sight of him. He looks good, not that he doesn't always look good. "Look at you. And no crutches! I do believe you're ready for tonight, Robin Rice."

"I believe I am. I'm not allowed to play sports with it or stand on it for too long still, but no crutches, which is good, because they really don't go with my suit." Robin hands the rose to her and leans forward to kiss her cheek. He pulls away smiling at her. "You look fantastic."

She closes the door behind her, bowing her head a little after he's kissed her cheek. The action is accompanied with quiet laughter. It's strange - in a very good way - to be doing something so very normal with him, for once.
"Thank you, so do you." An uncharacteristic blush, however faint, dusts across her cheeks. Rachel holds the rose in one hand, the other slipping into the crook of his elbow. "Lead the way or I might take charge here."

It always seems that he has these moments of normality with people that are so rare that they seem strange.
"This way," he says, pulling her closer and heading toward the elevator. "How've you been?"

Josef is in a very good mood. It is the narration's belief Elizabeth most likely does not want to know why he is in a good mood but he is in one, nonetheless. He's just bought a new suit, because the one he was wearing earlier in the morning had to be taken to the cleaners.
Comes with the territory. All in a day's work.
He likes the park. The fact a girl was crucified there has rightly kept some at bay, but Josef is not most people. The news didn't rattle him, only intrigued him as to who was behind it.
Noticing the makeshift chess set, he makes his way over to dear, sweet Elizabeth while a smirk tugs at his lips.
Tilting his head, he asks with amusement, "Who's winning?"

She looks up and drops the stick in her hand. Her face feels hot already at the sight of him standing over her. "Oh, hi! It's you. ...I was just- Uhm." Elizabeth looks down at her chess set, again, adjusting the stick appropriately, and then she looks up at him and smiles. "Practicing. I don't think it's doing me much good though."

No, the intrigue stems because of his own compulsion to always be acutely aware of his surroundings, to never be caught off guard. Folding his arms across his chest, he stares back down at her. The amusement doesn't dwindle. "You're not about to quit on me, are you Sparky?"

She smiles at him. Her face still feels flushed and hot. It seems to be getting worse, not better. "No. Don't worry! I am like the Energizer Bunny. I keep going and going and going- Even when I should probably... stop."
Elizabeth climbs up to her feet, pulling a strand of hair behind her ear.
"I- uhm." She curls her hair around her finger. If he isn't a demon, she could ask him this and lose him forever (not that she has him... she doesn't mean like that, but-). And she can't think of how to shake his hand, again, without it being weird. "I have a personal question to ask you, and I'm totally sorry cause it'll probably sound so weird, but I promise I'm not like crazy."
