Den looks up from his own cup of tea and book--La noche oscura del alma--as she storms in. Eyebrow up. "Aren't you going to eat anything? Though really, fluids are the primary concern after that little kiss I gave you. I hope the accommodations suit you. I was a bit pressed for time."

"You were a bit pressed - " Rachel stares at him in disbelief. Her blood is boiling, and it chases away the trepidation, if only for a moment. Her primary concern is getting the hell away from him. "Why are you doing this?"

"Would you like an answer someone with your particular moral set would find reasonable? I'm afraid I don't have one to give." He sets his tea down on its saucer, carefully, properly. "It entertains me. It satisfies my curiosity. It fulfills my pathological need for emotional release."

He leans forward, his voice earnest. "I am a disturbed individual, Miss Dawes."

Rachel could argue it. This isn't entertainment, it's a person's life but what good would it do? The last time she tried arguing with a morally bankrupt sociopath she nearly lost her life and she fully plans on getting out of this alive.

She looks around quickly, taking in the surroundings, the wheels in her head already turning. "There has to be a reason you are the way you are. A person like you isn't born, he's made."
