I ride the morning train...

Aug 28, 2009 19:27

At or around 5am, Luka Petrovic wakes up for the day.  She quickly makes her bed and gets ready for the day, and is out the door of the Estates by 5:30 am for her morning run.

Between 5:30am and 7:30am, Luka is on her morning run.  She makes it a point to  run at least 10 miles every day.  Starting from the Estates she takes a long meandering route ( Read more... )

The angel's heading back to Grant Park around 1:00 or so. He's actually spent a good deal of the morning in it, because the place is a good place to be homeless and not get kicked out. He's never seen a park in the middle of a city that had honest-to-goodness woods in it, but he's not complaining.

He's also acquired cigarettes, finally, and thus is so preoccupied by getting one out of the carton and lit that he runs almost headlong into someone. He doesn't, but the evasive flail it takes for him not to brings him right into Luka's path. "Fuck!" he spits out, nearly dropping everything he's holding.

Luka nearly flinches when the angel speaks. She doesn't like yelling, because usually when there's yelling it means that she's done something wrong and someone is yelling at her. Thankfully for the unnamed angel, Luka's proximity detection is on autopilot, so despite the internal flailing she manages to stop before she hits him. It's not necessarily as graceful as it could be, but at least they don't collide. She stares at him, wondering what it was that she could have done wrong to him.

When he realizes she's staring, he stops, staring right back at her with a bit of a deer-in-the-headlights look, though he's doing his best to disguise that. He takes a drag on the freshly lit cigarette, not taking his eyes off her. What the hell does she want? Why is she staring at him? Anyone taking more than a half-second's notice of him makes him nervous.

After what seems an interminable length of time staring, he finally speaks. "What?"

Luka stares a bit more before answering.

"Why are you mad?" she asks in a small voice. "Did I do something wrong?" She shrinks into herself, fully expecting the angel to hit her or otherwise punish her for getting his way.

Babel's also at that burger joint, though she's less eating and more pulling waitress duty. It's not a permanent job by any means, but she's been hired as a waitress for a little bit. Not that the restaurant knows it's only for a short while, but that's okay. She likes people enough to work food service for a little while.

When she spies Luka she snags an extra basket of fries and wanders over to the other girl's table, plopping down in the seat near her and thus taking an unofficial break or something. "Hallo," she chirps, nomming on a fry herself. "Haven't seen the likes of you around!"

Luka perks up when she sees Babel. "Hello, Babel. I've been at the park a lot, practicing. I'm much better at mindfeeling now." Luka grabs a fry from her own basket and pops it into her mouth.

"Oh!" Babel says through a mouthful of fries. "Good! Being at the park, and practicing, good for one's time." She smiles, finally swallowing the fries. Not that that matters, because she ends up with another mouthful shortly afterward. "Did you figure out about angels and demons, then?"

Yeah, it's been months since their last conversation, but Babel remembers every conversation she's ever had, and a couple of months ago isn't all that long in the grand scheme of things.

"Yes!" Luka nods. "Well, I still don't really get the part where angels are supposed to be good, though," she adds after a moment.

"I can tell them apart with the mindfeelings now. Angels are the blue dots, demons are the red dots. Your dot is very pink."

At around 10 PM, she wanders past Baron, who is very bored and looking for a distraction and oh look, there's one right now! He turns as she passes him, then starts nonchalantly meandering after her.

He'd like to think he's being stealthy, but he sticks out like a sore thumb at almost all times. There aren't that many people around anyway, so he can't even make an attempt at blending in. Not that he particularly cares about such things...

Anyway, Luka, you have some company.

Even if you were doing a good job at blending in, Baron, Luka can feel you following her. But with the level of stealth you're displaying right now, she would have been able to detect you even without the mindfeelings to warn her.

She turns around to face him. "What?" she asks.

Be grateful, on some other nights she might have greeted you with a punch to the face instead.

Baron stops and blinks at her, surprised. He's all innocence, see?

Really, how dangerous can a guy who's missing a lens out of his glasses be?

"Good evening, miss!"

"Hello," Luka says warily.

Missing lens or no, she doesn't trust this guy as far as she can throw him. Granted, she could probably throw him a lot farther than than most people, but the sentiment is still there. One false move on his part and she'll punch him in the face. Tread carefully, Baron.

Taking advantage of the families taking advantage of the last days of summer before school starts, Sakura hits Grant Park a bit earlier than she usually would for busking.

She finds a good place with a bit of shade since that will encourage people to stop for longer, and starts playing whatever comes to mind. She's not particularly using her power, but she's happy to be playing, and it leaks a little here and there.

When she hears the music, Luka comes over to stare. This lady is doing a thing with a wooden thing and a stick and music is coming out. (No, she's never seen anyone play an instrument before, in case you couldn't tell.) And she keeps these weird flashes of this weird feeling that she doesn't know what it is. Luka will keep staring until Sakura is done playing the song, and perhaps a bit after as well.

Since Luka is lurking to the back and side of Sakura's audience, she doesn't try to engage the girl in any of her playing to the crowd between songs. The ones who lurk like that usually have no desire to be spoken to for whatever reason. They may drop money when they leave, but they never do if Sakura speaks to them with a group gathered 'round like this.

And this crowd is a playful sort. There's lots of kids in it, so Sakura is playing more songs the kids would know, like cartoon theme songs and kids songs. She encourages people to sing along when they know the words. This is like playtime for Sakura, plus there's money coming in.

Luka is still standing there, staring at Sakura like she's turned neon green or something. Seriously, how was she doing that? And why?

Luka doesn't understand music at all, really--it's not something they had at the Laboratory. So she stares. And stares. She'll probably continue doing so for a good few more songs or so.
