Started shedding my skin until there was nothing left... (Openish)

Robin is sitting pressed up against the door to the room that they brought Jo to. He's wearing a short sleeve shirt and plain black pants, because he's tired of ruining suits. He's running out of suits and running out of money to continue buying them. He should ask Wyatt to pay him for being a fucking guinea pig. The short sleeves show off the ( Read more... )

Jo was planning on running as soon as she was able to find her mind again. Go back to the house. Take... take care of Jamal's body and move on. Find somewhere else.

She tries to open the door, but there is something in the way. Taking in a deep breath, she tries to pretend like everything is normal.

It's just better to pretend the other night didn't happen. Move on.

Robin wakes up when the door moves behind him. It's a rather jarring way to be shoved out of sleep.

And here comes more stretching himself too thin, again.

He stands up, and then waits for her to open the door, again. This is... going to go so well.

Jo fiddles with the door, trying to get it open.

And then sees the last person she really wants to right now. Awkward moment.

She knows she should probably thank him. Logically. But she can't bring herself to do so. She had just wanted to sneak out of the Conrad and leave this whole mess behind.

So instead, she says nothing, just standing in the doorway, staring at Robin's throat awkwardly, not able to look at his face.

Robin looks at her for a long moment in silence with his arms folded over his chest. He doesn't look angry so much as he looks tired.

"We need to talk. Do you want to do that in the room, out here, cafeteria... It's your choice, but I can't let you leave until after we've talked."

It hasn't even been an hour since Martha locked something in the journals for Rachel that she's already replying. The trepidation starts to nestle into her chest because she knows it's bad, and she knows she's not as prepared as she would like for whatever it is but that won't stop her anyway.

She's quick to change back to her clothes and she's darting out of her room, slowing down once she spots Robin and once again he looks...she doesn't think there's a word for it. If it once existed, it's a dead language.

God, she has timing fail.

Robin can sense the presence of someone else in the hallway. He lifts his head from his knees to tell them to fuck off, but then it's not just anyone standing in the hallway.

It's Rachel Dawes.

And fuck if his eyes don't well with tears at the sight of her after... fuck, everything that happened. He stares at the wall across from him, swallowing with a lot of difficulty past the pain that weighs on his heart.

"Have to quit... meeting like this."

"We do," Rachel agrees, so quietly he may not even hear her. She isn't even sure if she said it out loud.

It feels like there's an endless highway between them as she takes careful steps towards him.

When she finally reaches him she kneels down, still at a safe distance.

His name is trembling uncertainty on her lips. "Robin?"

Robin bites his lip as bitter tears flood his eyes. Fuck, does he hate this. He presses his head against the door behind him.

"People here get pretty fucking destroyed," he says as way of explanation, and then puts his fingers against his forehead. "I should have been able to stop it. For both of them. They never should have ended up this way. I just-"

Right. Not going to get emotional. Not in front of Rachel Dawes, especially, who he wants to still like him after she finds him hunched over in the hallway, but he's so fucking exhausted. So tired of keeping it all inside. So tired of everything.

He presses his fingers against his forehead and bites his tongue until he tastes blood. Pearly, white blood.

Sakura has been in and out of the Conrad so much the last few days that she's not quite sure if she's coming or going. Most of the auditions were fairly good, but she's not sure which jobs she'll actually get, or how she'll juggle the ones she does get. That she will get work is not something she'll question. She heard her competition in a lot of cases. She's better. Sakura ponders important things these days.

Sakura's first thought when she sees Robin is that he's locked himself out of his room, but then she realized who he is and takes in his posture. Asking if he's okay seems about as useful as asking if water is dry, and she bets both questions would get the same answer.

That doesn't mean she can just pass by without comment. "Um, do you need anything?"

Robin doesn't even bother looking up. His head hurts. Correction. Every body part hurts.

"No," he says, and then realizes he does recognize that voice more than the average person in the hotel though he hadn't realized that she lived down here. "I'm fine. Move along."

It's extra restraint for her sake that he doesn't say fuck off though he's not sure why he's putting in the effort.

She doesn't know Robin well enough to call him on what she's sure is a lie, but she's pretty sure that he's going to block that door for a rather long time. She doesn't have a clue why, but she can see that he's hurting.

With a shrug, Sakura says, "Okay. If you need, y'know, coffee or anything, I'll be in the lounge watching a movie. I'll probably hear if you yell."
