One flesh, one bone, one true religion; one voice, one hope, one real decision...

[[This post will probably have epic slow-timing, but it's long overdue, so here you go. People who have soldier-types they've been looking for an excuse to bring in: this would be an excellent opportunity.]]The Prophet of the Rift, having set up the Empress Theatre as a refuge for the Riftcomers to the very best of his ability, is engaged in what ( Read more... )

Karrin Murphy is bloody, beat-up, and as fucking scared as she's been in her life when she plunges through the opening--the godsend, even the Nevernever a better option than what that thing might have planned. She twists as she does, slams down hard on her back and skids across the ground with Fidelacchius' hilt braced against her chest, ready to impale whatever comes through after her.

It's going to follow. There's no doubt in her mind that it can. It's--

This isn't the Nevernever. Even if it didn't look like the inside of a warehouse, it doesn't feel like the Nevernever. Her ears are ringing with the strain of overuse, oversharpness. She stares at the Prophet. The wheelchair. Stephen.

It takes about three seconds from when she hits the ground for her to be on her feet again, weapon between herself and the strangers, one eye on the rift. Fidelacchius glows in her hands. "What the fuck is going on?"

In the not-so-distant future, somewhere in time and space, but probably not precisely in a galaxy far, far away, a Rift opens up in a hall on the Saratoga. It oscillates and glows and attracts the attention of one individual who happens to be storming down the hall, having just gotten away from the TV crews who were starting to get on his last nerve.

This individual stops in front of the Rift. He stares at it. He considers touching it. He stops short of doing just that and frowns.

"This some kind of joke?" He calls out to no one in particular. And no one in particular answers.

Strange glowy portal things on the Saratoga, could very easily be something highly dangerous, and should probably be reported, but what does one pathologically curious InVitro by the name of Cooper Hawkes wanna do with it?

He wants to touch it. Which is what he is totally doing now, unless someone comes along to stop him, and... Even then, he's probably still going to do it.

Vansen hates today. Between her goddamn sister and the goddamn phone and the goddamn military regulations... She is ready to cause bloodshed if things don't start going her way. Or, you know, maybe she'll just resort to unscrupulous methods to acquire strawberries. It's a toss-up.

She turns a corner in the corridor; the first thing she notices is something strange and glowing where there should be nothing but empty hallway. The next thing she notices is-

"Hawkes! What the hell are you doing?"

Hawkes jumps, BECAUSE HE TOTALLY WASN'T DOING ANYTHING, WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE TALKIN' 'BOUT- Oh, it's Vansen.

He points at the... Portal... Thing. "What d'you think this is? It just appeared outta nowhere." He totally wasn't going to poke it or anything. Really, Shane. He tries circling it, but there's no real difference in the back than there is in the front, so he goes back to staring at it.

"You think it's some kind of Chig weapon?"

"Yeah, I see it." She circles around after him, being very careful to keep some distance between herself and the edge of it. "I think we should probably report it before it explodes or something. Don't touch it."

Because yeah, Hawkes, she knows exactly what you're thinking. She knows you. Still, she's looking at the glowing portal thing more than Hawkes himself - whatever it is, it probably means no good, but there's something weirdly fascinating about it.
