come with me, go places

Metis has finally made his way to the Main Gauche, though now he's just standing outside, peering up at the complex with raised eyebrows. It's much more of a fortress than he was imagining.

The cat carrier at his feet is making very, very unpleasant noises.

Bean is finally getting back into the swing of things. Most of her memories have come back ( Read more... )

Victor, by contrast, is inside the Main Gauche, looking quite pleased with himself. He's found and sketched a couple of new specimens today, and now he's just having a walk before going back inside. His sketchbook, butterfly book, and specimen jar are all tucked under his arm.

As he wanders, he notices the man standing outside staring at the Gauche and pauses. "Er -- excuse me, did you w-want to c-come in?" he asks -- he can't think of many other reasons to be staring at the complex.

Victor chuckles a bit at that. "Oh yes."

Well, there are Behemoths, but one would hope they're not generally the cat-eating kind. Victor nods to this. "That's good. And so far I've only seen the one, so he should be fine." He looks around the complex again. "It's really not bad in here -- the rooms are nice, and there's a lovely garden." The way he grins when he says that should indicate that that's Victor's favorite feature.

Metis beams. "Sounds perfect. I could use a place like this. Stable, safe, a garden..." It'll be a good place for a writer. Even the inevitable noise and excitement of having lots of demons around will be nice. Metis's life has been almost boringly quiet lately.

"It's quite nice," Victor confirms. "I spend a lot of time in there, drawing." He indicates his sketchbook under his arm. "It's all free, too. At least, no one's asked me for rent yet." Which is really fortunate, considering Victor doesn't have a lot of money, and a good portion of what he has is still in 1870s British pounds. Being poor is a new experience for him. "So yes, I like it here."

"Ah, so you're an artist, eh? It'll be good to be amongst fellow artists again."

He can't help a smirk that's just slightly triumphant. "Yeah, I'm pleased about everything being free. Been a bit low on funds lately."

He beams at Victor. "Thank you for all the information, really."

Victor blushes a little. "I g-guess," he says, feeling a bit shy. "I just -- like drawing. Especially insects." Victor is a entomologist as a hobby. He's a little weird that way.

He nods in return. "I understand that all too well these days." Before he came from a rich family. He considers himself very lucky that someone found him and brought him here before he could discover the real "joys" of having no money in present-day Chicago.

Speaking of which, Victor smiles back. "You're welcome. I wouldn't consider it proper to just leave someone stranded." Victor honestly likes helping people. It makes him feel useful.

"I don't know much about drawing, but that must be very difficult. The colors, the details..." Metis waves his hand vaguely. He always has a bit of a hard time explaining art and the things associated with it.

"Wandering, starving artists. It's all very Sixties."

He nods up at the building, gathering up his things. "So I just find myself an empty room, eh? Nothing special I have to do?"

Victor shrugs back. "I've never found it so. It's quite soothing to me. Though sometimes getting everything just right is a bit of a challenge." One he enjoys quite a bit. He's quite proud of some of his entomological drawings.

He blinks a few times, then just shrugs again. "I'm afraid I wouldn't know." He wasn't around for the Sixties -- at least, not the 1960s.

"That's how you go about it, yes," Victor confirms. "Though if you want a window, you'll want a room facing the inner courtyard. The outer rooms don't have any."

"Well, that's how something you love should be. Soothing and challenging at the same time." Like with writing, the combination of the wild excitement of world-building and the feeling of being able to write gold for six hours straight, along with the challenge of writer's block or writing a painful scene.

"Hm. An inner room it is, then." Metis doubts he would be able to live in a room without windows.

Victor smiles at that. "It sounds about right," he agrees. He doesn't think he'd like drawing nearly as much if there wasn't always a bit of challenge to it -- to get that exact pose, or that one little detail that eludes most people.

"I chose one of those myself," he says. He supposes he could have lived in one of the outer rooms, but he thinks he might have felt a bit too hemmed-in. "I -- er -- suppose I should let you go select one. Unless there's anything else I can help with."

Metis returns the smile with a bit of a nod. Fellow artists always understand.

"Ah..." He beams at Victor and starts on through the gate. "Well, thank you for all the help, Victor, really."

Victor smiles back. "I was happy to give it. Hopefully I'll see you around here again."

New specimen sketches, and he helped out someone! Today has really been a good day.
