It was really only a matter of time before the Doctor returned to the Casa to flail at someone new. And Donna's always good for that. He walks over to the porch and flops down on the step beside her with a heavy sigh.

"Remind me to avoid the brand new wanderers in the future. It doesn't tend to end well for me, talking to them."

Donna sighs and rubs at her temples a bit. This can't be good. "What did you do?" she asks.

Forgive her, Doctor, but it is a logical assumption from her point of view. You do tend to be... a bit overwhelming at first.

The Doctor looks over at her, looking indignant. "Do? What d'you mean, what did I do? What makes you think I did something?" Donna, he's wounded. Deeply wounded.

Donna just raises an eyebrow instead of giving him the full on Look, complete with crossed arms. "Just saying, it's you. Seemed a logical assumption. Fine, then, what happened?"

Don't screw around with your Time Lady, Doctor. She's not in a good mood.

Well, Jenny had been spending her time exploring since the moment she had arrived, and seeing how her encounter with the Doctor had gone less pleasant then expected, she was just kind of looking for something to distract her from thinking about it for awhile. But then again, it was hard to do when you were running into yet another familiar face. All she could do was hope that Donna, the woman that had named her would know who she was, or at the very least, give her a chance.

She took a seat beside Donna on the steps, and gave her a curious and slightly worried expression. The Donna she had known has always seemed so much stronger then the one next to her now, and she couldn't help but feel that something was wrong.

"Donna? What's wrong?"

Donna blinks. Just a bit. Okay, random blonde girl who she's pretty sure she's never seen before, but she knows her name and--

Right. Talk with the Doctor earlier. Donna smiles tiredly. "You must be Jenny. The Doctor was by a bit ago, but he's off again, if you were looking for him. Flustered him more than a bit, you did."

Well, she can't say she liked the way Donna said that, but she'll manage for now. "I wasn't really looking for him. Just exploring. But I hadn't intended to...fluster him." She told her, looking a little thoughtful. She really hadn't meant for that, but she couldn't help telling him all that. Especially since most of the memories she had involved him and Donna. In those cases, what else could she do.

"You don't remember either, do you?" She asked after a moment of silence. Her dad not remembering had been one thing, but Donna not remembering or knowing her? She never even thought that would be possible until now.

Donna sighs a little and shakes her head. "Sorry, but no. This place... pulls people from different times. Parallel universes that for all intents and purposes, seem to be the same, but aren't. The Doctor didn't remember my last memory of him. But I never got a chance to go out running around the universe with him, and I'd never met Martha until I got here."

She smiles a little bit. "You seem like a nice girl, though. Don't let him bother you too much. This place has been pretty hard on him. Hard on all of us, really."

Emily looked through one of the front windows of the Casa when she noticed that Donna had been missing for awhile. She knows Donna wouldn't leave without saying anything so she expected to find her on the front yard somewhere, but she didn't expect to find her looking sad. Emily wanders out the door shortly after.

"Mom?" She steps on to the stoop and sits next to her so close that she's pressed up against her side. "Are you okay?"

Donna smiles a bit (though it doesn't quite reach her eyes) and wraps her arms around Emily. She doesn't want to think about how much longer she has with this sweet little girl. It won't be enough. It wouldn't be enough if Emily lived to be 100.

"I'm fine, sweetheart," she says. "Just a bit tired, that's all."

Emily wraps her arms around her mom, too.

"I think everybody's a bit tired lately, huh?" All of the kids, anyway, but she sees it wear on her mom, too.

She wants to help, but there's nothing that can be done. She knows that. They all know that they won't live long. It's why they have to be snatched up at infants and trained hard fast as soon as possible to get the most use out of them. "It's okay. Being tired is not so bad."

It's better than being dead. It's better than being a slave.
