and it's a dark secret you carry with you

It's a typical Sunday at the coffee shop. Good typical, that is; no firebombs or hostage situations. In fact, the worst thing to happen so far is that some guy who's been watching the building just turned to walk away and wound up running into a teenager ( Read more... )

HEY.

Hey, Gabe.

That booth? Was not actually empty. Not under the table part of it, anyway.

Callie does not appreciate having feet in her space, which is why you now have a fluffy head in your lap. Staring.

Well, he'd been focusing more on the lack of people seated rather than considering anyone would be under the table. Fairly typical for someone who's never had a pet.

Not to mention he's trying to ignore the newest thoughts in his head-

(no
you'll lose him
go back
track him down)

-so it's going to be a while before the staring is noticed, sorry.

Maybe he will notice her if she starts sniffing him?

Or, more likely, he will notice the apologetic looking young man walking over to him. "Caledonia, get out from there! Leave him alone!"

This is what he gets for trying to sneak his dog into a coffee shop.

Yeah, that'll do it.

"Wha-" Looking over-
then down-
and away, all three so quickly he hopes any fear in his expression is unnoticed.

"Didn't know this was a pet friendly location," he says to the wall.

Elizabeth is walking outside the coffee shop not long after Gabe, but long enough for him to be out of sight. She happens to glance at the stranger on the street when it hits her. It's less surprising this time. It seems she looks into everyone's gaze almost expecting it since The Incident.

She can pick out bits and pieces this time. It's easier to tell what's going to happen. It's quick violence. There is blood and pain. There's shouting.

It's the man's death.

Her heart races when he passes. No one normal can see her, except him. The going-to-be-dead. She follows. She doesn't know what else to do, doesn't know how soon it will be, but it's coming, and she needs to be near when it happens. She can't afford to sprint. Even if it means sleeping outside the man's house tonight on the sidewalk. Elizabeth will wait for it.

She won't have to wait long.

Gabe's been walking for a while now, the sunset fading to dark sky and streetlights. He'd rather be home-

(find him
find him)

-instead of stumbling through the city, trying to find someone he doesn't want to
(has to).

Elizabeth has been following this guy for long enough to figure out that he is not a nice guy. She never imagined either that the person she'd be helping to die is someone that's done horrible things... that's still doing horrible things. Elizabeth has to take the pain from him that he probably deserves.

She could sense that the death was coming soon. She followed him a few feet back, but now she's walking closer, waiting. Her back is tense. Her wings want out.

The man is not nice at all. He's a member of the CLF. He is full of anger and wants to express that anger, wants to take someone down. The man walks down the sidewalk toward Gabe, but not noticing him yet.

At a short distance, Elizabeth follows. Her heart pounds. Not long at all.

Footsteps. Not his. He looks-

(yes found him
time now)

It's the choking sound that gets the other man's attention. "You!" It can not be chance, running into this kid again. "Trying to sneak up on me, were you?"

"No!" Too loud, too quick a reply.

"What's the matter, freak? Scared?" Glint of the blade in his hand.
