Luka is standing in the center of the midway, looking around. There were so many things here she'd never seen before! Earlier, she'd had her first taste of cotton candy (she thought it was good, but she liked pastries better). Now she's trying to choose from the myriad of shows, games, and rides the carnival has to offer. Perhaps the funhouse? Or the Ferris wheel? Or how about the carousel? Luka begins to head down the midway towards the carousel, but she's going slowly and examining each tent as she goes by, watching the displays some of the tents have outside to lure in customers.

Mari's lurking outside her tent again, trying to feel for the weak and vulnerable- people who are easy to manipulate or feel like they need a little something-something.

When Luka passes her by, however, she notices that there's something off about this one.

"Hey, sweetie!" She calls out. "You look like you could use a glimpse into your future."

Luka stops in her meandering when Mari calls out to her. "You can...see into the future?" She'd never heard of such a thing. Then again, that kind of supernatural talk is not the sort of thing that was ever discussed in the Laboratory. Curious, she changes direction to walk towards Mari's tent.

"Of course!" Mari grins, showing a few too many teeth as she gestures to the sign above her tent, her silver bracelets clinking.

She opens the flap and waves her in. "Just come on in and let Mistress Marigold show you what to expect in your future."

There's a chair near the front of the tent in front of a crystal ball and as soon as Luka's inside, Mari pulls the chair out and gestures for her to sit.

Outside of one of the tents sits an abstract sculpture woven together entirely out of bent spoons and forks. Beside it sits a sign. "Alicia the Psychic Girl," sign proclaims in large letters. Below it in slightly smaller letters, it says "Witness her mind-bending powers!"

If one were to peek inside the tent, you would see a dark-haired girl of about twelve sitting at a table watching a ball bounce around the table in patterns that can't possibly be normal. Come on in, you know you want to.

It's not really clear how Jamal got here, but he has the run of the city and he followed the commotion to this place. He has money from all the bets and performances on the street. If anyone asks where his parents are, he points in the direction of a tent or something, and then walks toward it.

He can't read the sign on the outside of this tent, but no one has entered it recently so his curiosity has gotten the better of him. Jamal pokes his head inside, and then steps all the way inside, staring at the ball as it bounces.

<< Shit! >> Jamal says in Hindi, and then stays near the tent door. "How do you do that?"

Alicia gives Jamal a grin. "It's magic. I use the power of my brain," she tells him, tapping the side of her head. She levitates the ball over the middle of the table. "Come on, try to move it. I bet you can't."

Jamal stares at her. He doesn't really get it or thinks that maybe she's trying to trick him. Jamal jumps over to the table with his arms stretched out trying to grab hold of it or hit it. He'll make it move alright!

Okay, so carnivals aren't exactly Tay's thing. And she's kind of sort of on crutches thanks to her stupid cousin who deserves some serious bruises for that (as opposed to the other cousin, who Buffy has decided she really likes). But Buffy, for her part, is really happy that Tay is somewhere away from the Gauche and around people, and for reasons that don't involve shooting and killing things.

"Come on, Tay, try and act like you had a childhood, okay?" Buffy asks, walking backwards in front of Tay as she's talking to her. "Have some cotton candy, or... oh, I could win you a huge teddy bear at one of those test your strength things... That might be cheating." Hey, the Slayer sacred destiny has to come with some perks. Cheating at carnival games isn't so bad on the grand scale of... everything.

"It's not cheating if you're not trying to get around the rules, you're just stronger," Tay says, a little grumpily, as she crutches along behind (well, technically in front of) Buffy. Her mood wasn't helped by her "helpful" cousin suggesting the Tunnel of Love. Though the punch she landed in his stomach helped. It wasn't as strong as it should've been, sadly.

"Just... what's the point? It's a bunch of rickety rides and dumb games. What would I do with a Teddy Bear?"

Buffy sighs a little, rolling her eyes, and spins around so she can drop back, walking side by side with Tay rather than in front of her.

"One day I'm going to get you to understand fun if I have to beat you over the head with it." Hey, it worked with frappuccinos. ...Not with the literal beating over the head, which could get messy, but close enough.

"Yeah, that's the best way to get the point across. Hit me with things." Tay rolls her eyes a little, but she laughs a little, so she's clearly having a little fun.

"Okay, fine, we're having fun. Teach me how to have fun, Oh Wise One."
