Jacob's been away from most of the world for the past week or so, enjoying a victim. Not that it's only been one lately -- all that fear after the earthquake, right up on the surface.... It was like a free buffet. And who can resist a buffet, honestly ( Read more... )

Mathias is not having his best day.

He thought he saw Pagiel while he was wandering around the city earlier (no, he doesn't listen to advice for his own safety, shush). He doesn't feel like going back into the Conrad, because Des'll be there, and for some reason, right now, he really can't handle having his best friend there for him.

He wishes, so badly, that he could go home. It's almost tangible.

So, instead of going inside the hotel, he wanders into the park and flops onto a bench near Jacob, letting his head drop into his hands.

Anything could be happening to her, without him there. Absolutely anything.

For a split second, the grin that crosses Jacob's face is completely revealing of his true nature. Oh, this guy's going off like a siren, and that's without doing more than scratching the top layer.

And then he settles into a more friendly, charming smile and slides himself closer to the newcomer. "Hey there, stranger!" he calls out, brightly.

Mathias is not exactly feeling social right now, but he'll play along if he must. No need to be rude. Or... something.

"...Hey."

Jacob doesn't mind. It's more fun when they're paying more attention to themselves.

"Jacob. You from around here?" He slides onto the end of the bench Mathias is on, still friendly, allowing the closer contact and increased focus to do its job.

Regulus had been walking along the path, bored. Glad to be outside, most of the benches were occupied and then he recognized someone. Which was a weird and exciting feeling in this world.

He approached him a little nervously, trying to judge the man's mood, "H-hi, you're that bloke who had the cards, right?"

Jacob brightens further to see a (sort of) familiar face. "That'd be me!" He slides over a little on the bench to make room. "And you're the schoolboy. I don't think I caught your name."

Regulus grinned, relieved and sat down. "My name is Regulus," he said and held out his hand, "and I don't think I caught yours."

"Jacob. That is an interesting name. Do you all have strange names in England?"
