If someone were to find themself walking along the length of Navy Pier, they’d probably be far too enchanted by the sights and distracted by the throngs of faceless people to notice one young man weaving in and out of the crowd unless they were paying close attention to the fact that he wasn’t so much weaving as vanishing into thin air and then somehow reappearing somewhere else moments later as if he had never vanished at all. It is the power of the human mind and its inability to process the strange that no one seemed to take note of this at all, which was precisely what he was banking on.
Normally, Sark would be far more careful with such a strange and potent ability (one he only just found out about a few days ago, at that), but his lack of faith in humanity as a whole assumed that no one would give his little vanishing act much of a second thought (and he was right), especially given the fact that, for the moment, he looks as inconspicuous as possible and hardly worthy of note anyway, blending easily into the tourists and locals wandering about the pier.
Satisfied with his experiment, he strays off the crowded street and stands just off to the side of a group of people admiring the view of the water all while blending into the shadows. He doesn’t necessarily have to have the ability to turn invisible to become invisible, but it certainly helps and it’s far more foolproof, because as inconspicuous as he thinks he is, there’s always the chance that someone has sharp eyes.
