In all standard tales of heroic deeds, the hero generally arrives on scene riding a white stallion... Desmond Descant arrives back in Chicago on the back of a bog unicorn , and the denziens of Chicago who actually pay attention to this sort of thing have to sit and wonder what the hell that's all about... Or they would, if it weren't O'Dark Thirty ( Read more... )

And, also closing in on that building, there is an armadillo.

A special armadillo.

An armadillo grown to outrageous size, housing the consciousness of one very psychic Time Lord, and on a mission to retrieve all captives and fix what's been done to Captain Harkness. Unbeknownst to you, Des, this armadillo is going to give you a fighting chance.

Sort of.

The Vesmier-armadillo senses something in the region and stops, feeling it out. He's been projecting a low-level Don't notice me, don't be alarmed, there's nothing unusual here to keep the natives at bay, but there's something different about this. The air of resolute intent, and the fact that the presence seems to be honing in on the same place him himself is going, gives him pause. And given the nature of the danger he's about to walk into-

Well. Nothing for it. He stretches out, sending a psychic :: I'd recommend you leave the area. It's extremely dangerous, and several attempts to access the facility for which you are headed have already failed :: at all three of them.

Des tugs on the bog unicorn's mane a bit to get it to stop, "Whoa there, Ferdie." He gives the area a quick sweep, sees absolutely nothing, which is creepy in itself. He's used to psychics, but right now he's not particularly keen on some omniscent psychic whatever telling him what to do.

"Yeah, well.... You can tell that to my face!" He shouts into the darkness. He's pissed. He doesn't have to think up snappy comebacks.. Or intelligent comebacks. He may or may not be saving that for when he faces Thane, which may or may not be stupid... Actually, there's no 'may not' to that. It is stupid.

The narration apologizes to Grace.

The Vesmier wuffles. :: There's no need to shout, :: he says, adjusting his course. :: In fact, it might be better if you did not. I'm about two blocks from your position and am not intending to hide - in fact, once you see me, I think you'll agree that the idea is somewhat laughable. ::

He pauses a moment before stepping out onto the streets, searching for Des. He wants some information, before telling him too much.

:: I suppose it would be prudent, at this point, to advise you that, so long as you do not stand counter to my wellbeing or the wellbeing of the persons whom I am here to retrieve, I mean you no harm? ::

Des lowers his voice a bit, keeping his gaze focused somewhere not exactly the direction the Vesmier would be coming from, because hell if he can judge where psychic speech is coming from- he said two blocks, he did not say which two blocks. "Judging by the fact that we're headed in the same direction, I'd say we're working towards the same goal. You trying to get the Doctor out too?"

Unless Thane's decided to start recruiting for his Table of Evil, Des can't think of why anyone would want to be heading in that general direction other than hostage rescue.
