The blonde girl who gets out of the cab in front of the Conrad is not a familiar face, but anyone looking for that sort of thing would see a vague resemblance to Annie Hunt. She's a bit anachronistic, looking like she just stepped out of the 1930's (minus the gun, of course), with an old-fashioned suitcase and a stylish (well, in the '30s) hat ( Read more... )

Huck's wandering around. Like she does. She doesn't want to go back to the bar, because she doesn't want to tell the Dadions that she wasn't actually in school today, and besides, if she goes there, she'll have to do dishes, and she really doesn't want to do dishes anyway. So she's ignoring the impulse to run home and check on her pack, and is wandering.

Which is how she's by the Conrad in the first place, and when she sees Addie get out of the cab, she just stares. Doesn't stop walking, but there's a definite staaare, head turning and all, going on.

"What cave you been livin' in?" she mutters to herself. Probably not loud enough for Addie to hear.

Adelaide looks over with a bit of condescending pity. "New York ain't no cave, sweetie," she says. Her accent is all New York in the '30s. "You don't look like you're a fashion plate yourself, though, so you're one to talk."

Huck snorts. "Well if I gotta dress like that I ain't ever goin' to New York," she retorts. "Least I dun look like I fell outta my gramma's closet."

Yeah, so what if she started it. Bitch looked at her like that.

"Hey, I happen to be a very classy lady," Adelaide says, primping her hair a little. "Anyway, fashion ain't done nothin' good since '42, so I say why waste time tryin' to find somethin' else that works for ya?"

Watch it, Huck. You take too many shots at Adelaide's fashion sense, and she will set you on fire.
