Sam has been out. Which is always a portent of doom and he should know better, but we'll just sidestep that issue, because we can blame him later.
He starts up the stairs, pauses momentarily when he sees a woman sitting there on the doorstep, and then continues the rest of the way to meet her in front of the door. "Do you need something?"
She looks up, lets her wings out, rises to her feet, extends a hand. "Hi," she says. "I'm Karunamayee; everyone calls me Karu. I'm an angel."
She looks over his face, meets his eyes - not the best idea, and she's become overextended that way, taking on new projects when she already has them waiting. But this man isn't about to die.
"I'm sorry," she says, voice softening. "Are you a friend of Maya's?"
Sam smiles slightly as she introduces herself, gives a little nod and shakes her extended hand. "Yes, I am. I'm Sam Tyler. You're Maya's guardian angel, then?" He moves past her to unlock the door for her.
