Something, though, pulls her to a stop. It might be the lack of breath.
But when she sees the kitten, concern washes over her face and, ever so cautiously, she approaches it.
"You're hurt..." She holds out a hand to it, in hope that it won't feel threatened. No, she doesn't quite realize who it is.

He nods, part animal now, but that reaction is mostly human and limps over to rub against her hand, purring softly, more for his comfort than hers.

"Poor thing." She's honestly feeling her own pain for the kitten, just like she would for one of her children. She hates seeing anything hurt.
"I'm going to pick you up, okay? And then I'm going to fix you all up so you'll be in tip-top shape!"
She holds both of her hands out, cupped together so that he might situate himself before she even moved him from the ground.

He steps forward, still purring, into her hands, curling up and giving off a pained, "Meow." Luke has to adjust himself a few times until his arm just slips over the side of her hand so it's not in as much pain this way. Mostly.

He's had a little too much wine though so the reason may not have to be that good, but he doesn't expect much from this kid. Most of the important people he works with in his business are much older.

The park isn't very full today, but she's making a point of checking everyone. To that end she approaches, looking for eye contact.
"You look deep in thought," she mentions. It's as good a conversation starter as any.
