And all the victory songs seem to be playing out of tune...

Aug 09, 2008 23:00

There are two small blonde girls slinking into the Main Gauche after dark. Annie has been gone since last night, and she's not entirely sure she really wants to go back to her room and have Becky ask where she's been, if she even noticed. So she ends up in the hallway, frowning at the door to her and Becky's apartment like something might bite her ( Read more... )

Gwen has done some more research on recent events, and is... somewhat at a loss. She's been looking for Robin to give him what little she's found, but he's just nowhere.

So she's wandering, and happens to poke her head into the Rift Room. "Oh... I didn't know anyone was in here, sorry."

Hart doesn't even have to turn before he registers her voice, recognizes it, and just suppresses the urge to go for a gun. Romana made very clear the consequences of harming anyone in the basement, and he's decided to play nice for now. Still. Gwen Cooper. Right here. A different, younger Gwen Cooper, but still...

Hart turns with a smile. "No need to apologize. Looking for something?"

"Something to do?" Gwen offers with a sigh. "I think I'm about to go mad down here. But if I left, I have no money, no ID... so I'm stuck here."

Pause.

"Sorry, I think that's been building up. Just a bit," she adds under her breath.

Something about that outburst makes this situation all the more amusing, though he manages to make the smile look concerned, sympathetic. After all, he's just another wanderer, stuck here like her... and he knows the feeling of quietly losing his mind, though that had been in a cell.

"They haven't given you something to do down here?"

Gene notices Nate.

Considers ignoring him.

Considers going lion-shaped and biting his face off.

To say that he doesn't much care for Nate would be an understatement, yeah.

Finally, he just walks up to Nate and asks one question. "How's your brother?" Because yes, he worries about the lad. Doesn't like the situation Mat found himself in one bit, but he worries, because Mat didn't deserve that.

Nate stops. Looks up at Gene. Blinks.

His wings flare out a bit, though not much - he can't really stretch them out much in the hallway, big as they are, or they end up hitting walls.

"Great," he answers, in a tone that strongly implies that's one of the dumber questions he's ever heard. "I was thinking about taking him to Disneyland or something, but he's just been so chipper these past couple days, I thought it might be a happiness overload."

"Tell me something, sunshine, are you always this much of a complete tosser, or is this just reserved for people you're supposed to look after?" Gene's not amused. Not at all. It's showing. "I know what 'ee's been through, probably better than you yourself, unless you've been shooting people I don't know about, and if I'm asking you a question, it's not because I'm enjoying your charming repartee, but because I happen to be worried for the one of the two of you that's not a complete sodding arse-wipe."

Nate's wings flare out a little more, more an unthinking response than a threat, though somehow it always comes across that way. "Yeah, that's great. Don't really care. I'm his brother - I have to worry about him. You don't even know him. You're just some jackass I have to follow around who's got a stupid, pathetic thing for Mat's ward."

...The Doctor's wandering again. Great.

Charlie's at least gotten a little bit of sleep, so there's less silent grumbling than usual as he starts the truck and prepares to go hunting. Still, he's worried. Something's wrong with the Doctor. It's one of those things he just knows.

Donna's been staying in the guest room instead of going straight back to the Conrad. It just... seemed like a better idea, in case the Doctor needed someone who could just about match him for stubborn and smart and not needing sleep.

She hears Charlie's truck start and practically hurtles out the door, barely pausing to grab something off the dresser as she goes.

"Charlie! Wait!"

Charlie smiles a little -- he likes Donna. Donna's the sensible one. So instead of running off, he leans over and pushes the passenger side door open. "He's out again. You wanna come along?"

He wouldn't mind the company. Two have a better chance of getting the Doctor to listen to reason than one, and he doesn't approve of what the Doctor's been doing lately.

"Offer like that, how could I refuse?" Donna rolls her eyes a little (at the Doctor, not Charlie, and that should be evident. They deal with him on a regular basis) and gets in. "Alright, if we can't talk him into coming home, I have a backup solution. Martha-approved and everything."

She's rather proud of this backup solution. Also rather looking forward to getting to use it.

Here Annie, have a very tired (and somewhat ill-looking) Gwennie.

She's wandering down the halls, heading for her own rooms and wanting nothing more than to just lay down for a while. It had been a while since she was feeling particularly well but the same can be said for a few interesting boys she's been meeting in bars recently.

Catching sight of Annie and her silent confrontation with the door, she gives a weak smile.

"I do no think they attack if you look away," she points out before turning away and coughing.

Annie jumps a little at the voice, glancing over at the other demon with a bit of a frown. Somehow, she hadn't noticed her coming. But then, that's what happens when you're staring so intently at a door.

"Oh, no, I was just... thinking." She doesn't ask if she's okay, with that cough. At a guess, she's a Poludnica, and they're pretty much constantly sick. Plus, Annie doesn't care that much.

Piper is cursed with a very strong inability to sleep in a strange place and has thus taken to wandering aimlessly about the halls in the world's most epic game of quiet mouse in an attempt not to wake anyone up. She half-wondered if maybe demons were nocturnal creatures and that was why she couldn't sleep, but considering she's pretty active during the day... That's probably not the case.

She sees Buffy when she comes in and immediately feels somewhat vindicated that she isn't the only one who doesn't seem to believe in sleep.

"Hi!" She says in a rather gleeful whisper. Shyness? What shyness? She's just so happy that she's not alone in the dark, creepy corridors anymore. "I thought I was the only one up, so it's great to see I'm not the only one- is that blood?"

The shift of her tone from gleeful to mildly horrified is actually rather hilarious in a somewhat sad way, especially since she now looks like she might be holding back a small panic attack.

Buffy's a little surprised, mostly because... she knows most of the teenagers in the complex, and she doesn't recognize Piper. Someone new, then. She doesn't really get around to asking why they're whispering before the girl notices the blood, and then she grimaces.

Buffy briefly runs through the list of excuses she used to use on her mom when she actually had to use excuses, then remembers she doesn't actually have to lie about these things here. "No. I mean, yeah, but it's okay - it wasn't a person or anything, just some sort of... monster... thing. Don't worry."

Piper apparently holds her breath when she's nervous, so she lets it out in a low whistle. "Okay, that's good. I've only been here a few days, but I'm getting the impression that people coming in with blood all over them isn't all that uncommon and I'm not sure all of them aren't out there killing... People."

She takes another breath, because she pretty much just said that all in one. "Hi, I'm Piper... And were you limping? Did the monster hurt you? Do you often hunt monsters that can hurt you? ...Well, I guess it'd be mean to hunt monsters that don't hurt you, but still..."

Yeah, sorry, Buffy, she's a bit... Exciteable. At least she's not Andrew!

"I'm Buffy." She smiles, shifting her weight carefully onto her uninjured leg, and waves off the question about limping with a dismissive gesture. "Just a scratch. It'll be gone before you know it." It is, actually, somewhat more than just a scratch, but Slayers heal fast. She'll be fine. "The whole hunting monsters thing is kind of my job. Destiny. Whatever."
