Becky shrinks a little, and takes the money wordlessly, jogging back to the cab to pay the driver and then walks much slower back to the building. She doesn't look up at Gene as she steps inside, just sort of scuffs the toe of her shoe against the floor.
Gene watches her. She knows she did wrong, he can tell that much, but he's seen that look on his brother's face a time or two as well. Doesn't mean a thing.
"Come along then."
He's keeping a very close rein on his temper. Very close, because he's not going to scream at Becky in the middle of the lobby. Might serve her right if he did, but he's being as nice as he can think to be.

He doesn't say a word, just hands it to her, his expression completely closed off.
He's been through this once. He doesn't want it happening again, not with the walking doodle he's somehow grown fond of.
But he'll wait until they're somewhere private before he starts the yelling.
