It has been stated on numerous occasions that Descant is not exactly intelligent in the sense that he doesn't have the sense God gave a penguin, because if he did, he would know to walk away from the big, scary noise, not towards it.

.... What penguins actually have to do with this, the narration does not rightly know.

At any rate, Des finds himself, more or less, curious at what could possibly come through the rift and make such a bang. Never mind the whole "Nothing good except Mathias ever came out of rift while he was in proximity" thing. It all goes back to that "lack of sense" thing.

So now there's a Descant in the Rift Room, standing in the doorway and cocking his head at the strange humanoid (but only in the sense that it was human-shaped) creature on the floor.

"Well... That's one way to make an entrance."

See Des completely miss the point that very bad things often come through the rift and this person... Thing... might very well be one of them.

Zel notices Des standing there and with a frustrated glare, he states, "It's rude to stare, you know." Mildly sarcastic.

He has half a mind to pull his hood up over his head, and almost reaches back to do so; but he decides that such a move would be pointless, as this man has already seen him. Seen what he looks like... What Rezo did to him.

"Touchy," Descant chuckles, leaning against the doorframe with a cocky smirk (although he at least has the decency to stare at the ceiling, because he doesn't want what happened to the wall to happen to his skull... or some other delicate part of his person). "Given the state of your landing, I guess I'm going to assume you're the latest unlucky victim to the rift."

Zelgadis looks to his right at the dent in the wall, and an embarrassed look crosses his face. "Uh, I don't know about this Rift you're talking about, but... it would appear so."

As an afterthought, he added, "You'd be touchy too if you looked like I do."
