Romeo does his job well. Not that he likes the word. Job. From reigning terror in Italy to recruiting for the Organization al around the world in Chicago, currently. The second one loses the proper ring to who he is. Nevertheless, it's true. He does work for the Organization. As boring as work sounds, he enjoys it. More than reigning terror (most ( Read more... )

Buffy needed to get out of the Main Gauche for a little while. After a while, it just got claustrophobic. If it were night, she'd be looking for some kind of monster to kill - since vampires are apparently not the problem here that they are back home - but as it is, she's just out for a walk. It's not exactly exciting, but at least she feels like she can breathe now.

And then, of course, there's some guy sitting on the sidewalk. "You know," she comments, "someone's going to trip over you. And I won't feel bad about it."

Yes, she really is bored. Talking to random strangers on the street.

"Well, it's probably harder if you're sitting on street corners staring at buildings," Buffy says with a bit of a smirk. Well, if he doesn't mind possibly being thought of as crazy, she supposes, he can deal with a little teasing.

And even if he can't... it's Buffy. She's probably going to tease him anyway.

Romeo's smile widens in response to the smirk and the teasing.

"Probably."

He looks her up and down, again. The scent becomes more clear. Her powers. Super strength, agile... the knowledge of how to kill... It's still hazy, but he'll figure it out.

Romeo tilts his head, intrigued and honestly, curious about her, which is of course, a very bad thing.

"What is your name?"

"Buffy," she says, not in the habit of not telling people that information. After all, it's not like "don't talk to strangers" exactly applies to Buffy, even in a strange universe with demons and monsters on the loose. It's almost like home, and she can take care of herself. "You?"

Romeo leans in toward her rather close (its a foreigner thing no respect for American's need for personal space, really) and tries to look very serious.

"You promise not to laugh?" He raises his eyebrows.

Oh, yes, he won't tell you his name unless there is a promise.

The serious expression is soon ruined by his smirk.

"My name's Buffy and you have to make me promise not to laugh?" she asks, eyebrows raised. Tay questioned her name after they met. A lot. "Alright, I promise. What is it?"

He just smiles and has a feeling she won't be able to keep that promise. Luckily, he doesn't have a temper (not when it comes to his name, anyway).

"Remember, you promised," he says softly, pointing a vague finger in her direction, which because he is so close nearly ends up touching her with it. "It's Romeo."

She tries. She really does. That doesn't keep a slight snicker from escaping her, and she ducks her head, covering her mouth with one hand for a moment. When she looks up again, it's not without a smile that is clearly being restrained from being a much bigger smile. "Seriously? Your name is Romeo?"

It's cute that she's trying so hard.

Romeo smiles in response to hers and raises his eyebrows in her direction still helplessly close.

"Would I lie to you about this?" He shakes his head and laughs out loud for her. It looks like it hurts to hold it in. "I'm serious. What can I say? My mother loved Shakespeare."

By mother he means the vampire woman that kidnapped him before he was buried, before his birth-mother could see that her dead baby had come back to life, but details are really not important here.

She's finally realizing just how close he really is, and wondering if she should be bothered by that. The smile doesn't fade much, though, as she answers, "I don't know, I've met some people who made up some pretty ridiculous names. I guess it could be worse." He's not calling himself Spike, after all...

And now he looks intrigued again.

He does enjoy her scent even if it's infuriating, because he can't place why it's so familiar to him.

"Worse how?" Romeo shakes his head and smiles. "No, if I made up my name, I'd think of something more..." He twirls his fingers toward the sky. "Believable."

Buffy shakes her head, smiling a little. "You really don't want to know. Just... it could be worse, I promise. Though if I were you, I'd have a serious talk with my mom about whether she hated me when I was born..." Again, says the girl named Buffy.

"I'll keep that in mind." He touches her arm, but just barely, could be simply brushing against her as he pulls back.

And then he recognizes that scent as he's pulling away from her face and her neck. If his gaze looks more intense... it's not something he can help.

Slipping his fingers through his hair, he nods in her direction.

"I should go. ...find a place to stay." Romeo tilts his head to the side and smiles at her, again. "It's been a pleasure... Buffy. Could not ask for better sidewalk conversation."

She notices the change in his expression. It's hardly noticeable, barely more than a shift in the air, but she's a Slayer and noticing these things sometimes means the difference between life and death for her. Not that she's even sure what set it off, but there's something different now.

She can't decide if it means danger or not.

Buffy smiles, trying not to frown at him, and nods a little. "Yeah. I guess I'll see you around, then."

Romeo knows it... this means danger.

A vampire slayer. The slayer. The most powerful one he's ever met, but yes, that's what she knows how to do. Kill vampires. Not the vampires here, obviously, or he doubts they would have had a conversation at all, but...

He is ridiculously attracted to women who have a good chance of killing him.

"Of course," he smiles at her, turns, and walks way.

He probably wouldn't have minded if she'd frowned. The danger is more exciting when they start to think it might be there.
