All you ever wanted was someone to truly look up to you

Shepard is sitting in one of the sunrooms in her apartment building with her journal, frowning deeply about something. It's not frustration, really. More.... anxiety.

The comm unit on her armour buzzes with static for a moment before a mezzosoprano voice states, "Commander, some of the others are starting to look a little peaky. I think they might ( Read more... )

Harry hasn't quite finished planning his replacement containment spell yet, but he's getting mentally fatigued, so he throws the leather-bound journal onto his rumpled bed and walks out to get some air.

He doesn't notice Shepard until he's almost right behind her. "Oh... sorry, I didn't see you there." He hopes his footsteps were loud enough that she isn't about to spring up and kill him on reflex like a ninja or anything.

Shepard leans back so that she's looking up at him from her chair. "That's alright, I didn't see you coming," she responds. It's a lame attempt at a joke. Don't mind her.

"How goes the circle modification?" She asks, hoping for some good news.

"Slowly," he says, easing to the chair next to her. "The hardest part is just trying to match the perfect objects to anchor the power of the spell, since the Rift doesn't have very many common household items associated with it. But it's mostly boring technical stuff, and my brain was about to leap out of my ears screaming, so I'm taking a break."

He looks over at her and sighs. "Truth be told, I'm feeling kind of useless right now. I'd much rather be blasting the shit out of some monster."

Shepard snorts. "Same here. But unfortunately there are no monsters to be had." With a small smile she adds, "You have a good sense of humour, you know."

She sighs and states, "Sully said some of the crew are starting to look ill. I hope they haven't come down with it. Some of them are Supernaturals, but some are just vanilla humans who were aware of the whole Angels and Demons thing."

Malek is sailing through this plague more or less unfazed. After all, he's a demon, and Elashte--in the two and a half minutes he could get him on the phone--assured him that demons were immune. As demons compose the majority of his friends, why should he worry?

He is, however, going a bit stir-crazy. City streets aren't the most fun these days.

At least now he has a sight-description of Shepard, and he's been wandering the halls looking for her. As soon as he thinks he has a visual, he wanders straight in and drops into a chair across from her.

"And you'd be the Commander, yeah? Malek."

Shepard smiles just a bit. "Yeah, that's me. Call me Shepard, though. 'Commander' is only for my team. You're not one of them." She offers a hand. "Malek, was it? Pleasure to meet you. Sort of. I mean, with the plague..."

She usually doesn't ramble like this. She's feeling a bit useless right now, so don't mind her.

He snorts. "Yah, that plague. Just came up to see old Elashte. Then it turns out he's nowhere near. Anyway, I have something for you."

He takes a small pack, tossing it to her deftly.

"Came up from Guam when I heard Elashte turned Neqa'el. He got me a job down there, way back. Working with this demon, US Supply Sergeant for one of the bases. Told me someone was looking for heat-vision kit, so I got heat-vision, night-vision..."

Shepard looks mildly surprised. "Thanks. One of my former allies went traitor. He's working for the Angels now. He has the power to turn invisble. Infrared's the only way to see him when he's like that."

Shepard grimaces. "Elashte's trying to stop the plague right now. He's at a local clinic. I've been getting updates from him... it's not looking good. Some of my team are starting to look a bit ill too, according to Sully, and I think it's probably the normals. I've got a few of them on there. They were working for Calisto before and were fully aware of the Angels-Demons-Supernaturals thing."
