Bring me java, bring me joy...

Once upon a time there was an angel, he was all right at being what he was, not the best angel in the world but certainly not the worst either.

Or he liked to think so, at least.

Anyway, this angel was mediocre at many things, keeping track of records, keeping track of people and most importantly making coffee ( Read more... )

((ooc: Coffee ping! Will be very intermittent |||orz uni))

For the vast majority of his visits to the cafeteria, Trian is only there for either coffee or tea. Today is no different. He's only just recently learnt how to work the coffee machines, but that doesn't mean he won't let someone else make it for him.

Ambling towards the stranger, Trian blinks and loosely curls a hand under his chin. "It seems a bit much to have so many coffee machines when you'll only be using one at a time," he comments from a short distance away.

"Oh, but I'm not," he announces proudly. "See, this one's got one way of making things and that one's got another and so on..."

He grins. "I'm trying to make the right cup. I can make it and it's okay for the most part, haven't ever had anyone spit it out on me or anything, but it's not right."

In his heart, Oliver is a bit of a perfectionist, even if it means he's doomed to be frustrated considering the only thing he's perfect as is being pretty damn mediocre.

"I've been trying for most of the day and--" He pulls out a mug already filled with what seemed to be a rather strong brew. "Would you try this for me? See if it's any good?"

Yes, he's going to use you as a lab rat, Trian. The narration apologizes for this action.

Trian likes the sound of this. Drinking coffee is always more enjoyable when someone else makes it for him. Grinning, Trian accepts the mug with both hands.

"Don't forget different people have different tastes," he says before taking a long, slow sip. Trian's gaze flicks up to the ceiling as he thinks. "Not bad. Strong, as I like it," he assesses. Waving his left hand vaguely, he continues, "though this blend leaves a slightly unpleasant aftertaste."

Eloi's in the caf to make a cup of tea, since he's a proper Englishman and all, even if his accent is long gone. Seeing Oliver with his coffee makers causes Eloi to laugh softly to himself for a moment. He then approaches Oliver with his own mug of Earl Gray and asks, "Don't you think that many coffee makers might be a bit much?"

"Not when you're trying to do what I am," he informs, not looking up from the machine that's currently got his attention.

Straightening up, he grins a little. "Trying to make just the right cup and since I'm kinda impatient, this works out better."

Well, until he forgets what's gone into what coffee machine but he doesn't need to mention that aloud.

"What's that you're drinking," he questions then with a sniff and a tilt of his head.

"Hmm? Oh, Earl Grey. I'm more of a tea guy than a coffee guy," Eloi says with a sheepish smile. "I'm Eloi. You new around here?"

Regulus wandered into the cafeteria and blinked at the long line of coffee makers. He had to chuckle at the man attempting to get them all working.

"Have enough coffee?" Regulus asked, as he walked down the line of coffee makers.

Oliver blinks, looking up at the fellow who seemed to be addressing him.

"Me? Oh yeah, I'm just..." He tries to think of a way to put what he's doing into words that won't make him sound crazy or like some obsessive compulsive.

he didn't have much luck.

"It's not for me," he starts, almost cautious. "I'm trying to make the right cup of coffee. I can make it but it's...Funny."

And then an idea strikes him. "You wouldn't happen to know your way around one of these things, would you?"

There are just some things in this world that Ianto excels at.

Coffee? One of them.

So when he enters the cafeteria in hopes of making his own cup (yes, he and Tosh modified his coffee maker. So what?) he can't help but watch the man with one brow raised.

"Did you need help with something?" Don't mind the sling or cast, he's just plain amused.

"Nah," he calls over his shoulder, not bothering to see who's taken interest in his practice. "If you're waiting for a cup just hold on a sec, you can have this one, I'm just...."

He curses under his breath and straightens up, turning to look at the other.

"Put too much water in that one," he informs with a sigh." And too much coffee in the one next to it and not enough of either in the third--" He stops, realizing that he hadn't actually been asked what he was doing.

"I'm fine," he informs. "Just trying to make a cup of coffee. A nice, good cup of coffee."

Ianto listens and watches the other scramble about in attempts to make coffee. He knows this trade very well, so just looking at the various blends, he can tell what is wrong.

"I can help you, if you'd like." He approaches one of the coffee makers and examines some of the contents briefly. Pulling the filter out, he replaces it and refills it with coffee grounds. With that, he adds a very small portion of powdered milk before slipping it back into the coffee machine.

And once the pot has been made? Well, he'll pour the man a cup and offer it out, a small smile on his face.

When the help is offered, Oliver nods eagerly before he stops moving and watches the man, eyes following his every movement, memorizing what it was that the other did and what he himself was doing wrong.

It...actually might have been a little creepy to some people.

Taking the coffee, he sips at it before his eyes light up and he gives this wonderfully amazing person a hug.

"You!" He announces. "You are the best person alive! Did you know that?"

Robin Rice is watching from the doorway of the cafeteria with a raised eyebrow and an amused smirk on his lips. His arms are folded across his chest and he's just leaning against the door frame.

No, he's not going to help (not yet anyway). Really. This show is too amusing on its own and he'd hate to interrupt it.

It's going to take him quite a while to notice that anyone's hanging around, mostly because he's concentrating on trying to perfect the coffee and partly because if there was anyone around, he's be able to function much better if he pretended they didn't exist.

Oh, but soon enough, he's peering in Robin's direction before having a wide grin on his face.

"Hey!" He trots over looking rather excited. "Try this," he instructs, pushing a cup of coffee towards the other. "Tell me what you think."

It's his best cup so far, even if there were still things that needed to be worked out. He was just excited that he had something to present at all.

Robin glances at the cup with an expression akin to a grimace.

He would have preferred to watch the kid make a mess. It's much more entertaining after all.

With the cup pushed on him, he takes it into his hand, but keeps it away from his face for now. He's staring at it with that grimace.

"Looks a bit suspicious to me." Mostly because of the line of coffee makers. "Like motor oil. Are you sure it's edible?"

"Uhm, I think so?"

He looks to the cup and then back at the line of coffee makers, trying to remember just which one had contained the brew he was currently presenting to Robin.

Oh, maybe this wasn't as good an idea as he thought....

"Just try it? I don't think you'd get sick if it's bad, so at least there's that!"

That's right Oli, stay positive.
