It was combat instinct and a dose of common sense that drove Arthur to immediately restrain the person barreling down on him before they collided. He still did not trust any of these students (with the sole exception being Merlin through the grandfather clause) and with the frightening powers some of these mutants possessed, there was no way that Arthur would allow a perfect stranger to obtain the upper hand.
He'd done all he could to alleviate the chaos that descended onto the school, but with the rate people were dropping and allowing hysteria to rule their senses, Arthur wouldn't be surprised if it turned out he'll need to knock this person out too, if only to transport them to a safer location. Hands firm around both upper-arms, Arthur shook the person once, swinging him (and it was a him, Arthur was certain, especially with those larger sized arms) towards the wall to prevent other collisions.
"Listen to me! Are you all right?" Arthur asked, expecting panic to commence at any moment.
No, he wasn't alright. Not with his tentative sort of safety net cut out from underneath. He hadn't meant to show this to anyone. Not Sora, not his friends and certainly not anyone here. They wouldn't understand. Or - perhaps more accurately - he wasn't ready to tell anyone.
Consequently, when a set of hands interrupted his path, he didn't so much think as he reacted, shadow exploding up around him and coalescing into semi-solid tendrils that reached and grabbed and pulled at Arthur's arms, wordlessly saying let me go.
But other than that, there was no attempt at violence, as Riku simply stood there, poising between fight and flight.
Arthur's own powers surged in natural defense at the perceived threat, static building, crackling in the air even as he forced his powers down.
Surprise didn't quite cover it for what Arthur felt right then. The panic on the stranger's part still very much there but instead of lashing out at Arthur as he'd originally expected, Arthur sensed enough desperation in the reaction for him to immediately release the other.
"Hold steady," Arthur said in the calmest tone he could muster, palms held out as he took a half a step away from the other mutant. A frightened mutant was as dangerous as a malevolent one, though he knew better than most that being unarmed didn't necessary mean that one was harmless. "Do you understand? It is only a black out. You're safe."
The only reason he hadn't lashed out at Arthur was that deep down, Riku didn't want to hurt anyone anymore. He was frightened, yes, but he knew that he hadn't actually been attacked. If he had been, he would have reacted differently.
And then promptly run. Let it never be said that he had the greatest skills at dealing with things.
"I know what it is," he answered, voice deep and slightly annoyed. He knew. He just didn't like it.
