Secret Eden. Have you heard of it? Probably not.

You would most likely not know of it unless you were a child of a politician or a wealthy businessman or some young celebrity, venturing out in the world of luxury and vices.

It was a haven for the rich and elite, a club lost in the secret alleys of Seoul, a private place, free from prying eyes, responsibilities and titles. No disturbances from adults, or from those social climbing middle class kids who didn’t know where to place themselves.

It was exclusive.

Money. Alcohol. Sex.

Being in the Secret Eden was a pleasure only the few could enjoy. It was a prideful yet well kept secret by the young and elite.

What belonged to the Secret Eden, stayed within it, or was kept by the people who had the privilege to enter.

---

Deep but bored brown eyes scanned the vicinity. The place was dimly lit, except for the dance floor that had beams of light beating and swaying, almost imitating the bodies dancing under their brightness. In a booth, there was a group of young girls giggling, taking photos with their expensive phones and a group of boys eyeing them with a kind of malice they’d probably enjoy. By the corner was a couple, probably too intoxicated to realize they were almost having sex in public.  A few people were merely sitting down, lounging while enjoying drinks.

Sitting on a VIP couch that overlooked the area, the young man, whom the wandering eyes belonged to, took a sip from his whiskey.

He was Jung Yunho, son of the head of South Korea’s top chain of law firms and was on his way to become a lawyer himself. Handsome. Tall. Athletic. He was one of the wealthiest and most respectable guys in his university.

He rotated the glass in his hand, watching the burgundy liquid swirl slowly. He was running out of patience to bear with the lack of interest the club was bringing him.

“This place is getting boring,”  he said as his eyes went back to watching other people.

With a small laugh, Shim Changmin shook his head. “Don’t let Yoochun hear you.”

“Let me hear what?” Yoochun threw himself on the spot beside Yunho, before laying down the three bottles of beer he had in his hands.

“Nothing,” Yunho replied nonchalantly, eyeing Changmin irritably.

“Come on. What is it?”

“Yunho says your party’s boring.”

Yoochun scoffed.

Yunho threw another glare at Changmin. “I never said anything about the shit you arranged being boring.  I said the place is getting boring”

“Jung, nobody else here seems to think so. Besides, you know school starter events are the lamest, shit gets better as the year goes by”

Yunho didn’t reply. He knew any debate with Yoochun about Secret Eden would only turn out badly. Yoochun was practically one of the people who ran the place, arranging parties here and there, making sure new acts would come and visit.

To Yunho, the thrill that came with the club was gone. Things weren’t as exciting as they were in his first few years. It was great to be a part of something so exclusive, but it was always the same people, the same conversations.

Both men had too much pride to agree on anything.

“He’s just bummed because that senior he was fucking just graduated.” Changmin teased before he took a swig from his bottle, watching Yunho for a reaction.

“She never called you back over the summer?”

Yunho didn’t answer again, getting even more irritated than he already was.

“Come on, the opening event for freshmen and new members is coming soon. You might find someone there.”

Already pissed by the conversation, Yunho clicked his tongue. “Too bad, I’m not going.”

Yoochun’s mouth hung wide open. “No way! You always bid at the auction.”

“Not this year.”

“You’re not serious. It’s one of the biggest events here. Everyone is going.”

“Well, maybe I’m tired of everyone.”

“You’ll be eating your words. The auction is going to be awesome.”

“Do I look like I care?”

Before spatting back, Yoochun paused and his mouth twisted into a smirk. He liked challenges, and this seemed to be a good opportunity for one. “Tell you what Jung, let’s make a bet.”

The other looked at him. “What kind?”

“You’ll go to the event. I bet on it. And if you do, I want your penthouse. You can have my Ferrari otherwise”

Yunho grinned. It was easy gain. “Deal.”

“I’ve always wanted that penthouse of yours, Jung. Girls dig it.” Yoochun let out a small laughter. This is going to be fun.

Jaejoong looked at the mirror for the nth time. He fixed his bangs a little bit to the left, only to push it back again to the previous position. He scanned his black top, wondering if it was presentable enough for his first day in university.  He looked dissatisfied, although anyone who saw him would probably disagree.

He glanced at the acceptance letter he had recieved months ago.

Welcome to Geum Daehakgyo*

Geum Daehakgyo was the best school out there and with quality also came a high prce. It was also the most expensive school in the country. If you were from GeumDae, you were either absolutely smart, extremely rich, or both.

It was why when Jaejoong found out he was accepted for a full scholarship, he almost couldn’t believe it. As the days got closer to classes, however, he found himself doubting whether or not he could fit in. Big names were in that school. And who was he? Mere Kim Jaejoong.

“Joong-ah! Come down here, you’re going to be late for your first day!” he heard jumped, getting startled out of deep thought, as one of his sisters call him.

He frowned at his own reflection before grabbing his worn out sling bag and bolting down the stairs. When he arrived at the kitchen he was surprised to find a stack of pancakes with whipped cream and specially set for him.

“Shit,” he whispered to himself.

“Congratulations, our little brother!” Four of his eight sisters and his mother were there, big smiles plastered on their faces. It was like his 7th birthday all over again.

Was it possible to feel embarrassed for yourself even when no one else is looking?

Jaejoong groaned. He loved the attention and care his family was giving but sometimes it was just too much.

He pretended to smile. Did anyone else's family from GeumDae do anything as lame?

---

They were sitting inside one of the university’s café when Changmin turned to Yoochun from hearing him curse repeatedly in annoyance.

“Fuck!” Yoochun said again, grazing his tongue against his lips

“Do you want me to ask you what this is about or are you going to ra-”

“Min, are you aware of how near the auction is?”

“Yea. Why?”

“Fuck. I still haven’t got anything to make Yunho come. I can’t think of anything.”

Changmin shrugged. “You made the bet in the first place. You dug your own hole,”

Yoochun let out a mock laughter. “Thanks a lot Min.”

“It’s true.”

“Shut up.”

Yoochun tapped the his car key on the table, leaning his head on his other hand while trying to brainstorm of anything that could get Yunho to attend. He’d tried contacting Yoojin, the senior Yunho had a fling with, to invite her as a guest. He thought that would’ve been a sure and easy win, but it turned out that she had left for graduate school in America.

His eyes went immediately to the shop entrance when he heard the bell rang. His mind shortly wandered away from the bet when he saw the figure entering.

It was a pale boy with jet black hair, red lips and big black eyes. He looked unsure of himself as he entered, his hands holding tightly on his bag. Nevertheless, the hint of innocence he had as he bit his lips caught Yoochun’s attention.

He wore a black top, faded rip jeans, boots, and a red jacket was tied to his waist. A tattered canvas sling bag hang across his shoulders and Yoochun thought it was odd to see anyone in GeumDae wear something like that. Odd, definitely, but not necessarily distasteful.

The boy was new to his eyes, striking even. Strange, maybe, but in an intriguingly good way.

His gaze followed him until he sat alone in the table by the corner. The boy’s eyes looked around the small café. His and Yoochun's view came across shortly, but he immediately shifted his gaze, making Yoochun grin. He licked his lips before he took out a scratchy brown notebook and a black pen with a blue elephant figure on its top. His eyebrows started to stitch together as he wrote. Yoochun noticed how he had forgotten to get coffee.

Fascinating.

He let out a small, amused, laugh, and Changmin once again lifted his attention from his book to ask Yoochun what was happening. He simply cocked his head to the direction of the strange student that just entered. Changmin tilted his head, a little bit in confusion, but shortly after he too found him odd but alluring.

“Do you know him?” Yoochun asked.

“I’ve never seen him before. Maybe he’s a freshman.” he replied, without tearing his gaze away.

"He's interesting" He watched intently, already noticing the boy's habit of licking his lips. “You’re with the student affairs committee right? I want to know who he is.”

*Geum Daehakgyo - Geum means “gold” in Korean, and Daehakgyo is the term for university. This is not a real school in South Korea, but I decided to use it to give their university some identity; GeumDae is a shortened term for it.
