Yunho rubbed the back of his neck as he rotated his head in frustration and exhaustion. 3 paragraphs. 5 hours. 2 sleepless nights and a deadline he most likely won’t make.
“Oh god,” he took a breath off his cigarette as he stared at the laptop screen in front of him. He could swear that the blinking cursor was taunting him.
Freedom of Religion vs. the Law
Freedom of Religion vs. the Law…Freedom…of…Religion…vs. the Law…
He’s been reading his notes, flipping pages through his books and rattling his mind out for anything he could write.
He was going nowhere with his report. He had been going nowhere with everything since…since…
“Fuck this,” he slammed his book to his desk and ran his through his hair with a groan. He sat, stressed and irked as he finished his cigarette before he moved out of his room.
Just as he stepped out, he saw Yoochun, Junsu and Changmin sitting on the couch with bowls of popcorn and nachos and a few cans of beer, laughing at some stupid reality TV show.
“Oh hey hyung. You done with your report?” Changmin asked before biting into a tortilla chip.
“Far from it,” he groaned.
“You look like shit, Yunho.”
“Well, thanks a lot Chun. It’s really nice to know that.”
“You’re welcome.” His roommate shrugged. “But you know what, I think you seriously need to get laid.”
Yunho slumped himself on the couch and grabbed a handful of popcorn. “That, I agree with.”
“Yea, maybe you can do it…in the tub,” Yoochun said, hardly keeping himself from laughing.
The law student glared at him and slammed a pillow onto his chest, “Oh great. That’s fucking great, Yoochun. How mature. Are you seriously going to bring that up again?”
“What hyung? It wasn’t a bad suggestion. Judging by the way Jaejoong was limping that morning, you probably enjoyed it…a hell lot”
“Min I thought you’d be better than this!”
“What?”
“Just, shut up.”
It’s been weeks since the incident with Yunho and Jaejoong happened and apparently none of his roommates were close to letting it down.
It had become an awkward morning on the day it happened. Neither could get the three to delete the scandalous videos and photos, but they did manage to make them keep a promise of not posting anything on the internet.
The two had an agreement not make a deal out of it. It wasn’t the first time either of them got drunk and had a one-night stand. It was not a big deal.
…Although, Yunho could never forget how he couldn’t look directly into Jaejoong’s blushing face that morning.
“The moment you saw me in the bathroom, you knew I was never going to let it go, right?” Yoochun said blandly.
“You’ve got to be kidding me. You know it’s not a big deal to me and Jaejoong.”
“Exactly! So I don’t get why your panties get into a knot every time we mention it.”
Yunho didn’t reply. He wouldn’t pretend that everything was fine and dandy between him and Jaejoong. They barely talked…or even looked at each other, for that matter. It didn’t matter though, it wasn't like they were friends or anything and it wasn’t like they’ve ever been completely comfortable with each other beforehand anyway.
“I kind of miss the glowing after sexed up Yunho.” Junsu butted in with a teasing smile.
“Please, I wasn’t glowing”
“Whatever, it’s still better than your sexually frustrated self right now. You can’t keep jerking off to Jae forever.” Yoochun retaliated, smirking.
Yunho closed his eyes in frustration, “How many times do I have to tell you that I do not jerk off to Jaejoong?”
“I don’t get why you just wouldn’t go for him. He’s not dating anymore. And he is quite lonely, if you ask me.”
Just shut up Chun. Just shut up Chun. Just shut up. Yunho was slowly getting frustrated. “Yoochun. I am not going to go out with Jae.”
“Yea sure. Lie to yourself some more.” Yoochun said loosely, not catching the seriousness in Yunho’s heated voice.
Yunho sat up. He had enough of this. It was bad enough that he couldn’t function with the blond running through his mind, he didn’t need his roommates reminding him each second of Jaejoong.
“It was a mistake okay? We were both drunk and never in my right mind would I ever do anything with blondie. So stop it because it pisses me off when you force me onto someone I don't even give a damn about. Now can you please shut up about what happened or Jaejoong, for that matter? I don’t want to have anything to do with him whatsoever.”
Just as he finished, they heard the front door shut. The four of them immediately turned to the direction of the noise.
It was Kim Jaejoong, by the entrance of their flat, his mouth hanging half open, and his eyes wide in shock. Yunho could barely look at him, but even with a brief stolen glance, he knew he’d seen hurt in his expression.
He heard it all.
The room stood still for a few seconds and just right there, Yunho wanted the earth to open up and eat him alive.
“I…uhm…you know, I think…I should just go…” Jaejoong muttered with uneasy eyes as he stepped out.
Yoochun shook his head and stood up, going over to Yunho before he chased after Jaejoong, “Jerk.”
Yunho looked back at the two remaining people in the room, half wishing any one of them would come to his defense, “What? I didn’t know he was there.”
Changmin stood to leave and eyed him. “Well, congratulations on ruining possibly the best thing that could ever happen to your lonely existence, hyung.”
The law student immediately looked at Junsu, who’d always, always be on his side. "You fucked up."
--
It’s been a week and a half since Yunho last saw Jaejoong. Saying that he’s been counting the days was an understatement. He’d been counting the hours…no, minutes of being away from him. He could say that he was guilty, however admitting that he felt more than that would need a little more convincing…but he knew.
He tore his eyes away from the TV show he hadn’t even been paying attention to from the start. He eyed Yoochun who was busy on his laptop, eyebrows knitted together and lips pressed against each other; he bit the inside of his cheek and uneasily tapped his fingers on the remote.
“Hey, Yoochun.”
“Mmm?”
“Is Jae coming over tonight?” It was the first time Yunho had ever brought him up.
“Nope,” his roommate answered, without even sparing a glance.
“Is he coming tomorrow?”
“Nope”
“Any plans with him this week?”
“Yea, but not here”
“I see,” Yunho became quiet for a while as Yoochun simply continued to work. He wasn’t used to not having him swoon over the fact that he opened up a topic on Jaejoong. Usually, the other wouldn’t stop talking to him about the blond. “He never comes here anymore….”
“Yup. Well not that you care, right?” Yoochun briefly glanced at him.
“Yea, yea sure. It’s just that I’m not really…used to it”
Yoochun didn’t reply and the two of them fell silent again. “Are you two okay? Is there any reason why he doesn’t visit?”
“Are you seriously asking me that question, Yunho?” Yoochun finally looked at him with stern eyes.
“I…”
"Quite frankly, I don't have a problem if he doesn't come here anymore. We meet nonetheless anyway. Me? I’ll always have Jae, because I’m not stupid enough to let someone like him go, even just as friends.”
Yunho opened his mouth to speak only to close it again. He looked at the floor, not really knowing what to say.
“But you? I doubt you can keep this up. I doubt you can keep lying to yourself about not wanting to see him. You shouldn’t give a fuck about your bullshit pride anymore. What do you want?" there was not a hint of that typical playfulness in Yoochun's voice.
“I…I don’t…I just…sorry…”
“Wrong person”
His roommate shut his laptop, irritably and walked away. Yunho closed his eyes and covered his head with a pillow. Shit. He messed up. Big time.
--
Yunho found himself, standing in front of Jaejoong’s café. He had been doing so for several days now, but he never went in. He’d seen the blond a few times through the glass, smiling that charming smile to his customers.
Even just standing outside reminded him of the almost endless hours he used to spend in the shop. After what he pulled off with Jaejoong, Yunho had never come back and even he couldn’t deny the fact that he missed spending idle afternoons with his roommates inside the café.
He didn’t just lose Jae, he lost a life he’d been used to.
The blond seemed fine, so much better than he was. Yunho found himself wondering if he was going to do the right thing, if he should still talk to him. Jaejoong already seemed good without him.
But then Yoochun was right, what about him? What did he want? What did he really want? He wanted the eccentric blond man who owned the coffee shop. He wanted him, with his quirky habits and his unfinished songs and his blabbing about the most random things and his photos of the sky. Yunho would never understand him completely but it didn’t matter because that what he was, complex and enthralling.
--
Jaejoong looked at the steel blue sky through the glass door of his café as he flipped the signboard to “Closed”. He sighed before he turned to the tables, picking up the treys and mugs his last few customers had left. Moving to the sink, he muttered a curse as he felt the chilly tap water run through his hands. “Shit. I have to get the heater fixed,” he said to himself as he started washing the cups.
His day was exhausting and although he loved his customers, attending to so many of them tired him out. He hoped someone would see the flyers he’d posted a few days ago and apply for the barista job. He needed an extra hand.
He laughed a little bit to himself, remembering how Junsu begged him not to let Changmin get the job since he would just steal all the food. Yoochun was hysterically laughing at Changmin’s sullen face, he really wanted the place. It’s been a while since they’ve hung out, everyone had been busy for the past few weeks and it was very refreshing to have all…well, almost, all of them in the café.
He doubted he’d ever see-
He shot his head up to the entrance as he heard the familiar sound of the bell above the door. “I’m sorry we’re clos-“ he said automatically, before he realized that the person who’d just walked in wasn’t a customer.
Yunho.
“Jaejoong,” the law student said faintly as he approached him. The shop owner merely looked down on the sink, continuing his chore.
“Jaejoong…”
“Yunho, the café’s closed."
Yunho shifted his eyes and bit his lips, "Can I help you then? Closing up?"
“No I'm fine. You can go.” He said, still without turning his eyes to him. Thick silence surrounded them.
"Jae...I'm sorry"
"For what?" Jaejoong finally looked up and a part of Yunho wished he hadn’t, because the blond’s eyes had almost left him stunned.
He gathered whatever courage and sanity he had in him to speak up. "Jaejoong, I'm an asshole. I didn't mean to say what I did. I regret what I said…” The blond didn’t answer and Yunho only continued, “You’re not a mistake. If anyone should think what happened was a mistake it should be you. You don’t know how mu-“
"Haven't I told you that you're not good at this, lying to make me feel better?" The shop owner shook his head, with a disapproving smile.
Yunho took a deep breath and closed his eyes. "No...Yes...I mean...Yes, I’m not good at lying… especially when it comes to you. I can't lie, not to you, or to Yoochun, or even to myself. I've been trying to deny it for such a long time but Jae...you don’t know what kind of effect you have on me, and God knows how much I’ve been trying to get rid of it, but I just, I can’t.”
Jaejoong didn’t even spare a glance.
“I feel like shit. And I’m stupid, I really am. I've been so scared to admit what I feel for you because you were so different from everyone else. What I feel for you is so different from what I feel for everyone else."
He waited for a few moments, but only the silence of the room answered him back. “Jae, what do I have to do to convince you?”
Jaejoong was still silent and Yunho was starting to feel helpless. He knew he couldn’t do anything about it. What was he expecting, Jaejoong running into his arms and confessing his undying love?
It almost seemed futile but the law student just couldn’t muster himself to let it go, not when he finally admitted that he wanted Jaejoong. More than anything.
Yunho moved behind the counter and to the shop owner’s surprise, pulled him into a kiss, long, loving, gentle and patient.
Jaejoong looked intently into Yunho. They were both out of breath. “Are you convinced now?”
The shop owner looked back with searching eyes.
He didn’t want to be convinced. Yunho, as he himself claimed, was an asshole. He was scared and unsure and Jaejoong didn’t know if he wanted that. But one thing he understood was that the moment he saw his best friend’s roommate walk in the apartment, he’d already been taken.
The question was if he was willing to take the chance with him. He was already in the mess, was he willing to get tangled up even more?
“I…guess I have to go.” When he felt that Jaejoong wouldn’t be responding, he took a few steps back, and made his way to the door.
He deserved it, he knew he did. He was too late and he just ruined his chance at something he wanted so much. Jaejoong was just, too good for him. Why would he even take a chance on someone who ran away from what he felt? Would Jaejoong really forgive him at a promise he wasn’t sure Yunho would be keeping?
Yes.
Yes Jaejoong was the kind who would take the chance.
“I need a little more convincing, kiss me again” he finally replied. Yunho immediately stopped his tracks and turned his head to the blond. “What? I don’t get anymore convincing?” Yunho smiled and willingly obliged, as he practically ran towards the shop owner. He could finally breathe properly and his heart was going to explode…in a good way.
“Thank you…I’m sorry. I’m sorry,” he said in between the meeting of their lips.
“You better not be playing,”
“Never.”
Their lips met again and Yunho held him against his own body, his mouth never seeming to get enough of Jaejoong. They pulled away and Yunho licked his lips.
“Look, I don’t know if I’ll ever get the blond hair, or the songs about melodies and harmony and Christmas trees or whatever, but I promise to stay even if I don’t understand or even if I pisses me off. I would never have imagined myself with someone like you. I wanted a normal person who does normal things and isn’t complicated, but I like you. A lot…and not just because of the sex, which was fucking mind blowing, nevertheless.”
Jaejoong only laughed and planted a short kiss on him again. “What would you say if I take you again, this time, sober?” Yunho whispered.
Jaejoong moaned as Yunho bit on the spot underneath his ear. He didn’t need an answer. He pulled the blond’s legs up his waist and pushed him against cabinet, knocking up the small bottles from the spice rack.
“You’re paying for that,” it was the last coherent thing Jaejoong managed to say as Yunho grabbed his ass and trailed a series of wet kisses down his neck.
--
"Why don't you make us both happy and ask him to live with you already?"
"I don't know Chun..."
"There you go again! Keeping yourself from what you want.”
The two of them were in the middle of the kitchen, Yoochun with a bowl of cereals in his hands, and Yunho standing up, only wearing a pair of sweatpants, while he stirred his own coffee. The day had just started, and Yunho’s roommate was already giving him a headache.
“You're practically bedding him every night though,”
"Shut it, I don't" Yunho snapped at him with a glare. “I don’t know if we’re ready for it.”
"What? As if my eardrums don't get enough of you two. “ Hnnnggg...aagghhh!”, It’s not hard to figure out what you two are doing.”
“We’re not that loud, Chun.”
“Whatever. And by the way, Jaejoong should stop calling that, little Yunnie, we all know it’s not.”
“What even…how do you even know this? You haven’t seen it, have you?”
“No, but it doesn’t change the fact that I hear it…Fuck Yunho, you’re so big~”
“Stop it!”
"Stop what?" Both of them turned to a now, very black haired, Jaejoong, who had just entered the room. His hair was disheveled, lips still red and purple marks were scattered around his visible skin. He was only wearing Yunho’s oversized university hoodie, and the law student prayed that he had, at least, some short boxers underneath.
“Nothing,” Yoochun said with a smirk as he watched Jaejoong move in to Yunho for a morning kiss, chaste and lingering. He snapped a picture and two heads immediately cocked to his direction.
"What the hell?"
“This is for if Yunho fucks up. I'll just show him the picture so he'll realize how much he's missing out on,” he said as-a-matter-of-factly.
Jaejoong only laughed. “Don't believe him, Joongie.”
Yoochun only rolled his eyes before he left with his bowl. He loved the two of them, but sometimes, shit just got too sappy.
When the coast was clear, Yunho pulled Jaejoong up and laid him on the counter top, with him between his legs. He felt the other flinch in his arms, “You okay?”
“Just a little sore,” Jaejoong said. Yunho caressed his thighs before the other circled his arms around his neck and pulled him down for another kiss. The two of them danced with their tongues and Yunho found his hands lingering lower and lower down his back.
“Sorry if I was too much”
“Mmm. No you weren’t”
“Did you sleep well last night?”
“Mmm. Of course”
“Can you stay over tonight too?”
“Sure, it’s Sunday tomorrow”
“Great. I’ll just have to finish a few papers and I can take you out tonight”
Jaejoong looked at him, “Where?”
“You know that art gallery down town, you wanted to visit? I bought tickets and maybe we could stop by then have some dinner?”
“Art gallery? You’re willing to go to an art gallery with me? And you actually spent money on it? Who are you and where’s the real Jung Yunho?”
Yunho let out a soft chuckle before he claimed Jaejoong’s lips.
“I want you” Yunho breathed as his lips slowly made their way to Jaejoong’s jaws.
“Be careful, everyone in the shop is going to ask where all of the marks came from…or who…”
“Let them,” he took Jaejoong’s lips again and the other simply pulled him closer.
Yunho wondered why it took so long for him to admit that this was all he wanted. He regretted it, but every time he held Jaejoong, he was simply just glad that he’d finally made the decision. He thought of what Yoochun proposed to him earlier, and before he could have any more regrets, he knew that he should already take the chance and ask Jae-
“SON OF A BITCH!” The two of them immediately snapped away as they heard Changmin’s loud voice in the vicinity. “You two are fucking animals! Can everyone just please learn how to keep the kitchen pure? Jaejoong, right now, your ass is on where I eat my food.”
Jaejoong merely hid himself at the crook of Yunho’s neck, trying his best to hold his laughter…and maybe hide his bright red cheeks from embarrassment.
Yunho rolled his eyes in annoyance. “Min, do you want to watch Jaejoong and I have sex?” He offered.
“What? NO!”
“Okay, then you have to leave in five seconds”
Changmin immediately disappeared, the couple could hear him cursing as he made his way out.
“Yunho, you’re such a jerk.” Jaejoong punched his arm his arm. “We’re not really going to do it here, are we?”
“No way. I’m taking you to the tub.”
