I think the mundane nature of it is the worst form of punishment at all. It gives too much time to reflect.

Always got work to be done. I run the forge. Metal needs stripping, hauling. Gotta see about digging a charcoal pit, but maybe not until the ground softens up. Other than that there's woods and water to lug about... Whole works, really.
