I'm running into a bit of a snag as I own four Bettas and need to figure out what to do now that I'm going away to college.  I already checked, yes, I can take them with me, but the trouble comes in two forms.  One is I need to find the right tanks for them for my dorm, which is a small space.  Right now, I have them in about a gallon and a half ( Read more... )

A) if they are in still tanks you need to be doing full water changes.

B) they are good to chill without food for up to 10 days...It's been said.

I'd feed them before I left and after I got back if it's just a weekend.

They ended up sick when I did full weekly water changes, when I did 1/2 to 2/3 they seemed to do better and actually seemed much happier. Weird I know, but that's what happened.

If it is possible, keep them in the same tanks. If the worry is about marring the table/shelf, get a sheet of cork to cut and put down under the tanks. You can get it at most hardware stores.

I have my bettas in still 5 gallon tanks on my dresser, and I do 50% water changes once a week. I sometimes go a week and a half between water changes.
If you are feeding them daily, I wouldn't worry too much about two days going without food. I have had situations where I am gone for the weekend, and I just feed them when I get back.
You might want to see about getting a betta weekend feed block (time release), but my bettas don't like them, it can get expensive, and I've had issues with water quality when using them...

I got a divider tank and once they got used to each other, they were fine, except, I had a female between the two males to keep them from stressing themselves out...unfortunately, my dorm got too hot (like 90+ degrees hot) and I had to move them home, which is now getting too cold as my heat is broken and I'm moving them back to my dorm. But my mum somehow killed my female. I'm wondering if I should buy another female just to keep my males from stressing each other out, because the divider is clear.

I'm sorry to hear about your female.
90°? Ick. Yeah, I'm having to deal with hot and cold issues with my fish.
It's getting cold, and I don't bother turning on the heat in the house, so I have to have heaters in my tanks (which is one reason why I go with 5 gallon tanks).

So it is a three section tank? You could always try putting a fake plant in the section between the two males if you would rather not get a new female.
Then again, getting a new female might be easier and less expensive than buying plants (fake or real...)

Good luck!
