The long overdue Eurovision post: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

May 28, 2008 01:03

As some of you may know, the 53rd edition of the political showdown-cum-showgirl extravaganza Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) final was held last Saturday and to the great general surprise (or rather, shock of good taste), Russia's Dima Bilan was proclaimed the winner with his song "Believe ( Read more... )

I loved Lordi. And I liked Finlands performance this year too.

You know, when I saw Spain I first thought wtf, bUt then I remembered Germany's performance from 2000 and Spain was slightly forgiven. (although Germany's placement in 2000 was the best in the last 10 years. says a lot about the contest.)

The more often I hear Azerbaijan, the more I want to actually have the song. for listening to it. just because. ESC brainwashed me.
And the falsetto midget is kinda cute. -.-

Finland this year was good, but too similar to Lordi. They couldn't have possibly won.

...o.O
Oh well. Totally over-the-top acts like that who don't even try to be serious are what make Eurovision fun! They're totally mocking the contest.
(But erm...srsly, WTF???? is that "song"? LOL. At least Spain's is stupidly catchy!)

I know! I'm having the same reaction...adn i believe that we're not alone. *flails*
Midget? Lol, he's not that small...

Well, our 2000 contestant is a 'famous' show host, who's known for having his own comedy late night show. so he's really mocking the contest.
And actually the song is quite catchy, if you know German. It's like, kinda slang.

well he looks midget-y to me!

Oh...I see...backstory, eh.
Unfortunately most of Europe (and the world) doesn't speak German. But apparently enough to make it top 10, ah!

HAHAHAHA.
cuz you're so tall, you know? ;pppppp

I've never heard of this before. I would listen but my speakers aren't working. They need to be replaced.

But...I'm not really one for musical singing competitions. And considering I listen to mainly rap music, most songs that are sung in these competitions aren't rap...so I don't find any interests in them. :p

I guess bimbos need love too, haha! :/

I believe that there has been rap, albeit VERRRYYY rarely. Lol, well basically you're just missing a lot of ridiculous outfits and over-the-top performances. And some pretty mediocre singers, some truly good ones and plenty of "O.O WTF?!" moments.

Yeah...I guess they're part of the ESC "charm" too. Ugh.

LOL. Hilary, genius, madness....the line is blurred!

I think that I'm getting more and more attached to that song as well. His wail-descending-into-high-pitched-note sound from the beginning is stuck in my head, aaah! (But I'll admit that it's a drastic improvement from that Greek-American bimbo's song...)

It's a pity, because the music really was fab. One of the best I've ever heard.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find another vid, but I'be just bumped into this one (this too is from Meet Joe Black), and I strongly think you should give it a try.

Meet Joe Black.

The music is lovely.
Do you recommend the movie? I've been undecided towards it ever since it came out...years ago...
