Silence hung heavy around Fran, too, as she woke with a jarring sensation of falling in the too-soft bed in which she found herself. She could not hear the Wood, and had no idea what this place was, this inside place with walls all around and dead air. It felt like a nightmare and she decided it must be. After all, how could she be cut off from the Wood?

The tiny viera left the room with a wary eye on the sleeping figure of what might have been a hume, and found herself in a long hallway. Surely there was a way back outside. The Wood was bigger than anything, all-encompassing; this... whatever-it-was had to be inside it somewhere, and open out into it. Maybe it was all these walls that blocked out the sounds that should have been there ( ... )

The first thing Ed had noticed when he woke this morning was that he wasn't in his bed. The next was that Al was missing. And the third was... that this wasn't his house. The five year old quickly came to the conclusion that he'd been kidnapped. And if he was here, that meant his mom and brother were somewhere here too.

After sneaking out of his room, Ed started to search the house, calling for his mom and brother as he went. He'd just found the toy room when he heard a scream. Though it didn't sound like his mom or Al, it did sound like a little girl. Had Winry been kidnapped too?

Running back out into the hallway, Ed made for the direction of the scream?

"Winry? Winry is that you?"

"What??" Linaly stared at the little girl with rabbit ears--very familiar rabbit ears, although the scream was not. Viera... hadn't Mjrn called herself that? But this was far too young to be her. Linaly crouched slightly. "Don't be scared," she said, with a smile. "Did you just--"

Running footsteps made her straighten and turn quickly, ready to summon her chocobo again if she had to. But this was just a little boy. "Two children?" she said aloud, not having seen the third hiding on the stairs. "How did you find the house?"

"It isn't mine," said Linaly. Fran, Mjrn, Ffamran--wait. The name on Balthier's door was Ffamran, crossed-out. And Ed, that had to be short for Edward of course... but why were they all so young? They hadn't been yesterday. She looked up at the ceiling, as though the house would say Yes, Linaly, I turned them into children. It didn't, of course. But... she removed her earring. The spirits had come back, lately. So....

Linaly shut her eyes, breathed in, and held out the earring in front of her. To the children, it only looked like it had jumped a little on its chain, but what it said to Linaly was a confirmation of her suspicion. Magic had transformed them. "Thank you," she said quietly, and hooked it back on her ear.

They all thought that they had been kidnapped. Well, that was true in a way. "We were, kind of. Ah... are any of you hungry?" she asked.

Fran frowned in confusion at Linaly's answer, missing the question that was meant to distract her; she had been kidnapped, too? But she knew this place. "Have you been here a very long time?" Certainly she could not have been here since she was a child like them. That would be decades.

Ed gave Ffamran (what kind of name was Ffamran anyway?) a dubious look. Well, didn't he sound all high and mighty. But then Linaly did something funny with an earring. Was he imagining things, or had it jumped? It must have been some sort of alchemy he hadn't read about yet.

At the mention of being hungry, his stomach gave a loud gurgle. "I haven't had breakfast yet," Ed said in a this-needs-to-be-fixed tone. At home, breakfast was always ready when him and Al woke up.
